Lots of jeers and moans from the audience, so it's either being played in-studio with the mic's still on, or else she's just refused to take questions.

There is an audience, you can see their reflections in the backdrop.

I liked the ripple of laughter when she said that. Its like a scene from the Life of Brian or something.

yes of course its EVERYBODY ELSE, maybe the people are merely returning the contempt, it`d be rude not to.

I'm utterly convinced that if there were a ban on fat jokes that no thread about Harney or the HSE would ever get beyond 3 posts, such is the fucking banality of these things.

Now back to your collectively fucking insipid circle jerk, I'm sure there's plenty of jokes that haven't been used since that last thread.

apologies for lifting this off its very important topic! she is just spouting the same rubbish her HSE lacky spouted in the first part of the show!

What kind of a source have you or did you make it up? You are making boards unreliable.

The man in the audience that mentioned that the unions have restricted practices in the health services was right.

They should have explored this further on the show.

Dr. Joe Delvin from the HSE talks lots of statistics, and no truth
Primary Care Centres not opened when promised.
GP's open at certain times of the week, and after that there are no access to GP's and people end up going to hospital as a result.
Reducing A and E departments in the Summer, according to Dr. Chris Luke due to expiry of EU doctors Visa'a etc
Closing Monaghans hospital service's and when no other services were put in place, travel to Cavan hospital and may be dead when they get there
Closing acute hospital services in Clonmel, cost 45 million to build, and now going to be closed
Mary Harney and her statistics..... and everything is improving, I swear to god
The new consultant contracts, not contracted to do the hours they are suppose to do.
Mary Harney says the rate of MRSA is getting lower. Has anyone seen the dirt of the seats in the A and E departments in Beaumont, and how the "Cleaners" DO NOT clean the hospital wards properly....thats where MRSA comes from, bacteria and illness's spreading. Bring back the nuns to clean the hospitals
I do not blame Mary Harney for this and her "Statistics" I blame incompetant hospital management, and incompetant consultants, and the recent X Ray scandal in Tallaght hospital, misdiagnosed breast cancer scans proves it is consultants and hospital management who are to blame for the disgrace of a health service

She wouldn't last 1 day without private health care, people like her should be locked in stocks and flogged, stinking lying bitch. I would have to think her Food and Drink budget would be what most of us here would earn in a year.

Look, if you're one of the thousands of people who either been directly affected, or had a family member affected by the disaster that is our health service & it's decision makers, you'd understand the vitriol directed at her.

How in the hell can you justify putting people with cancer on a bus along brutal main roads (from Donegal to Galway each day) for a round trip of anywhere from 6-8 hours each way, whilst recieving chemo, or being asked to stay away from your family and the comfort of your own home for several weeks whilst fighting cancer?!!

If you have, and you can rise above, then fair play to you. ...:)

But let us rant, let us get the absolute fcuking anger felt at Harney and her ilk who treat us, and our loved ones with such disdain....name calling is the least I would do if I had the misfortune to be in her presence....

Agreed. For all the b/s she was spouting the fat pig had no answer for that one. I'd like to see how happy she'd be to be put on a 1-2 year waiting list for whatever help she undoubtedly needs judging by the state of her.

I switched over to RTE there for a while until my house began to list.

Had to switch back. Thankfully, no damage done.

P.S. This is what the 'Greed is good' philosophy breeds.

I'm no expert on the health system, but she didn't seem any worse in defending her 'turf' than other politicians are. Maybe better even.

Just obviously healthcare is a much more emotive and intense issue. I saw people guffaw too at the suggestion that 'people complain more as care gets better', but there's actually a logic in that too...when things do improve, the contrast with things that haven't improved gets starker. And people's expectations do rise.

Like I say though, I've no idea of the rights and wrongs of this, of the real problems in the healthcare system and whose fault it is. But this didn't seem to be quite the flaying I expected judging by sentiment around it beforehand.

What a shining and indeed exemplary model of a minister for Health she is. Her physical presence alone shows us all what can be achieved by leading a healthy, active lifestyle. We should all aspire to her level of wondrous, glowing and vigorous health. Mary you are the living embodiment of health promotion, you do us proud.

Missed it. I'll have to wait for RTE player (why does that take so long? :()
Although, I find it telling that so many "humorous" posts have been made. (Has the Harney "joke" genre gone over my head? It their some irony at play here where the less original and funny the offering is, the better?)
Look at almost any serious topic discussed here and apart from a small number of page 1 "comic" offerings, most contributions will be serious. What is it so different when our health system is being discussed? I have to say I have long got the impression that the only the people who were unfortunate to have been either themselves or their loved ones, failed by the system, seems to really care. The rest of us will make the right sympathetic noises but that's about as far as it goes. Mary Harney was the sitting minister for health at the last election, yet her constituents reelected her.

It's amazing how some people will make a joke over a woman that has tried to sort out our Health issues. I watched the program to night and I thought she gave a good account of her doings since she went into office as Minister of Health.... I know there has been loads of threads about Mary Harney, but it's becoming very sad now when people start threads about someones physique.
how sad are the posters to join in?

Back then you could die of boredom waiting to get admitted to A&E. Pity she has made zero in-roads on that front & gone backwards on every other one.

Her mother only died in 2007 I think.

I don't think that you can really say that Harney has done nothing.
We now have hygiene audits for one thing, which is something that should have come in years ago.

Here is the impartial annual report quoted last night that shows progress from 25th health service in the EU to 12th.
