    Hey guys,

I'm back! Have had a pretty stressful week or so (visa issues), but have still been working on my Couch to 5K :) Just finished Week 5 last night, but I have to admit I cheated a little bit with D3. Instead of doing the 20 min run, we just did an 8 min run, 5 min walk, and then a 10 min run. Will give the 20 min run a go at some stage, just wasn't ready yesterday! It was also possibly not the best idea to attempt the run after a night on the beers on Saturday, ah well :) So, onwards to Week 6, woohoo!

Well done for week 5! I'm gonna try and do it as is, but if I find it really hard I'm gonna modify it a bit and get there gradually. Lashing rain here today, not good running weather for me :(

Nooooo! Ladies the thought of 20 mins scared me to death too but you are so able for it don't worry. Just get out there and say to yourself 'I CAN do it, I WILL do it', and you will! You have run 16mins on W5D2 so the 20 min run is only 4 mins more than that. Have faith in yourselves, the body is capable of more than the mind realises! Chickenpoo I'd say instead of starting week 6 you should do W5D3 as is (or build yourself up to it) and then start into week 6. I think that the 20 min run is a really important milestone and is also really important psychologically! It kind of marks the end of the first half and the beginning of the more serious stuff! You kinda have to do the 20 min run before you're ready for the 25min one at the end of week 6.

Terly you'll be able to do it-If I can do it anyone can hehe! Just keep those negative anti-running demons away and think happy thoughts :D xx

I have to do w5d1 this evening, the idea of 8 mins is scaring me nevermind 20 mins! I hope the music is better this time though

I'm repeating W5D2 tonight with the new sports bra, so that alone will help. The last night I went out (the disaster night) I actually felt mentally able and ready to do the 8 min jogs, but had to keep stopping to adjust myself and try and stop the boobs bouncing all over the place!!
And I think if I do try the 20 mins and can't do it, I will keep trying. I'm definitely not going onto week 6 without the 20 min jog. I repeated W4 until I could do the 5 min jog already so I don't mind holding back until I'm sure I can do it. And I will do it!! :D

Good luck with W5D1 bluewolf!!! What podcast are you using? I think they're all dodgy to some extent!! :pac:

Did Day 3 of week 3 today. Found the first 3 min run really tough because it was so muggy out, so was jogging really slowly. There was a small bit of a breeze towards the end, so did an extra half a minute or so at the end of the last run, just to reassure myself that I can do it.
On to week 4 on Wednesday - the last 2 weeks have over-run because of being away, so really want to get all of week 4 done this week, weds, fri and sunday. The less time I spend worrying about it beforehand, the better!

I'm using robert ullrey's one. I like them and I've enjoyed them up to week 4, then it was dodgy :D
I'm a bit concerned there's no separate prompts for the w5d2 and w5d3 ones though, "audio cues" would want to be very obvious...

I'm using the Podrunner Intervals and its definitely not my style of music, but the beat is working! No talking or anything while you're running, just a wee beep to tell you when to change from one to the other, so its not so bad. When I (finally and hopefully) finish the programme I'm gonna make a few playlists of my own to run to for a half hour, and try and build up some speed :D

Quack quack, you'd want to be a duck with the rain I'm getting here. I'll be soaked later on. Did you start the Non-runners marathon book yet? Mine is here, I only read the very beginning but it seems interesting and very motivational!

    Hi All,

Just thought I'd come over to say hello - thanks for the nudge Terlywerly - didn't know this thread was here!

Started C25k last week, after a few weeks of walking on the treadmill, cos I couldn't manage to run for 60 seconds without having a serious high chance of inducing a heart attack and well at 29 I seriously didn't want that.

The main reason for starting this is to get fit, I'm in the fast lane to an early grave if I don't do something now. Despite being a chocoholic (what girl isn't?!?) I eat relatively healthy, but the desk job and 4 hour lectures at night have lead to a massive increase in weight in the last year and enough is enough - so I decided to give myself a kick in the hole!

First day out - nearly died, so hence the few weeks of walking just to try build up a bit of fitness, but hauling 15 & 1/2 stone is tough going, but I'm battling on to see if that will get somewhat smaller :D

    Anyway, enough about me....

Welcome. I'm a chocoholic too and I'm a guy, but I think you're in good company on this thread.

Good luck with the C25K programme. I think you have the right idea about building up a bit of fitness by walking first. I did that myself for about 5 or 6 weeks although it was just because I knew I needed to do some exercise. It was only after then that I decided to do C25K.

Keep at it anyway and don't be worrying about how fast or slow you're running. I was saying to the others that I thought I was jogging well enough until I seen my shadow on the ground and I looked like an old man hobbling along.

Make sure to take a rest day between workouts and don't overdo it like I have. I'm about 17.5 stone and I hurt my knee last week as I was doing tons of walking as well as C25K.

Right, the mass has ended :)

I have college twice a week at the minute, and in September it will be three nights a week - Friday is my night off where I just veg out.
So at the minute my regime consists of the 20-25 mins, Monday, Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday. I don't think thats too much, is it?
In September it will have to be Sat, Sun & Mon cos I'll have college every other night - but at that point I'm hoping I won't still be struggling!!

Just wondering have any of the girls doing or done with the c2 5k have found it good for weightloss my girlfriend is doing it with me and she hopes to get fitter from it and lose some weight , she was just wondering how many weeks in did ye start to notice any loss??

If it were me, I'd just do the 3 days per week and let that be it. I will have to go back and start Week 1 again and I plan to give myself 1 day's complete rest between workouts and then 2 days at the end of each week.

hhhmmm - my schedule really doesn't allow that - there is no way I'll be able to get up earlier in the morning, cos I'd be asleep then in lecturers later that night!!

As long as she eats right along with the exercise and drinks plenty of water! I noticed a dramatic difference by I think week 3 or 4, I lost 3 pounds one week when nomally I was losing 1. It really helped my focus and determination to lose the weight, and revitalised my attidue totally. Whether I would have lost that weight anyway without the C25K I'm not sure but I definitely thinked it helped in a couple of aspects. Its a great program, definitely encourage her to do it!

to be honest, I wouldn't go by weight, but by how her clothes fit - I've been walking for the last number of weeks and only now started the C25K programme, while I haven't really lost any weight according to the scales, my clothes are fitting me better.

I only read the first bit really, I'm way behind on my book reading - have a stack of them here, I'm in the middle of Pompeii by Robert Harris its really good! :) I'll read some marathon trainer when I come back from my run!

Exactly BN, I was 5 or 6 weeks on the healthier eating before I started this, and I definitely think it helped me lose more. Definitely tell her to give it a go, but make sure she has good runners before she starts - her feet will thank her! :D And a good sports bra if she needs the support!
    Brilliant programme!!! :pac:

I started doing Weight Watchers on Week 4 of C25k. I found even when I was going way over my weight watcher points I was still losing steadily. Once I started doing the long runs (Week 5 on) the weight fell off. When I finished the C25k and started training for the 10k it still kept dropping off. I started c25k early Feb and finished on early May. I kept running and I've lost over 2 stone since March.

I haven't been following weight watchers for a month now, just trying to eat well (most days) but I'm still trying to run three times a week and I've maintained that weight loss...even lost a little more.

It depends on how much your gf has to lose or how active she was before or what her diet was like before now......but it definitely worked for me!

Hey, welcome to C25K. I'm fairly new to this as well myself (just finished week 3), and I honestly didn't think I could run one minute at the start, never mind 3. Sounds like you're taking the right approach to building up the walking first, I'm sure it will pay off. Best of luck with it!

I've been trying to lose weight anyway through healthier eating, so can't say for sure how much is that and how much is c25k, but three weeks in I definitely notice a difference in my hips and thighs, they're a bit less wobbly and a bit more toned! The muscles in my legs seem a bit more defined, though that's under my scrutiny and probably not noticeable to a passer by! Even if your girlfriend doesn't notice much of a weight loss she'll definitely improve her strength and fitness, which can only be a good thing.

    hi everyone,

    I just finished a mini-week1.
Didn't feel I could do the full 30 minutes, so I stopped with 10 minutes remaining for each of the sessions in week 1.

Today is the first day I've actually done a proper week1 session1 !

Few things I've noticed, my left foot, well it is more likely the calf muscle,
seems to be suffering. At the end of the session, I'm almost limping. Not sore, but a kinda of lack of control if that makes any sense?

I have flat feet, but okayish runners, and inserts (off the shelf).

What can I do about this?

    Thanks for any help!
    TS

I don't know loads about this, but here's what I know about. You can go to a specialist running shop. There, they will do something called gait analysis where they will check your feet and see how you land, run, take off on your feet. They will then recommend runners based on your feet and needs. If you go into some regular sports shop, staffed by pimply teenagers and staff who're just there to flirt with each other, you'll just get some bog standard runner that won't help you.

I went to Amphibian King in Bray to get my runners.

Also I think you can get something called orthotics for your feet. You can buy ones off the shelf but apparently it's better to get ones that are customised for your feet. Unfortunately they can cost about €350 eur. You can get them from a physio. They should take either a scan or some sort of mould of your feet and have them custom made.

    My two cents worth.

Only got the scales a new battery the other day so havent been able to monitor :D My clothes fit pretty well though.

Just back from W5D2 repeat day after my overwhelmingly bad try the last day with the badly fitting sports bra. Very pleased with myself as it was raining when I left and I didn't try to talk myself out of it. And believe it or not, I managed the first 8 min jog!!! I am stunned, and I was tired but I felt I could have gone another wee bit without stopping. Started up again after the 5 min walk and did nearly all the 8 mins (probably around 7 mins). Stopped once to get up a hill that was quite steep and again to fix my sock which was slipping. But other than that I DID IT!!! :D
So unbelievably pleased with myself right now.
I'm gonna repeat this day a couple of times, just so I'm sure I can do it. I feel more confident heading towards the 20 min jog, but I still don't think I'd make a good enough go of it. But I don't mind carrying on with this session for a bit. I have no idea how fast I'm going though. I worked out that I did 1.2km in 8 mins, is this good, bad, fast, slow? No idea here lol but ultimately the important thing is that I did it!!

Yep, my other half had to get orthotics, he does a fair bit of running and was having knee problems and turned his feet out a bit which made his gait a bit awkward. He wears the orthotics all the time, not just running, and they have sorted out the knee and the gait. Think they were about 200-250 euro to have them made, but well worth it because the knee problem was only getting worse.

W7 Day 1. Tried it this morning and unfortunately couldn't complete it. Made it to about 17 minutes. I think I went too fast out of the starting blocks and didn't pace myself properly. The sweat stung my freshly shaven legs something awful  Still it was a good workout and as my language teacher used to say repetition, repetition, repetition!

Getting out there is good! Somedays we're just not able. Try again tomorrow or the next day.

Personally I am finding the heat a killer at the moment!

This is why I bought a treadmill - I can't let myself have an excuse, like its raining or its too cold/icy or too hot etc...

I knew that if I let that happen I'd never do it.
Also means noone else can see my big red face and fat ass getting into a heap after running for 60 seconds!!
