Is this tortoise for yourself? Have you done alot of research before taking one on? Apart from the fact that they are, like all tortoises, v.long lived. They have alot of specialised needs and can become quiet ill if they are not followed, unlike alot of other animals tortoises are a v.stoic animal and can be v.ill without showing any symptoms and seemingly die for 'no reason'.
Russians aren't too common in Ireland so they only occaisional come up for sale, if you do buy from a petshop be sceptical of the advise they give you as most of it is rubbish. €200 is the usual price.

yes i have spent the last 5 years learning and experiencing with reptiles, wallabies and tortoise (from as small as a map turtle to as big as a sulcata)
and i never listen to pet shops, the reason they are there is for money.
and 200! do you know of any more common, cheap land turtle.
what about a box turtle? how much are they?

The most common and therefore cheapest tortoises are usually the Hermann's Tortoise but again you will be looking at around €200. By going any cheaper then this you would most likely be buying a wild caught specimen, which is not only morally wrong due to the suffering they go through but in most species is illegal. Some species also need special paperwork to say they are captive bred or they could be seized if you are found with them.

    what about red eared slider?
if they gone up in price (had one for 5 years, gave him away?) since then, well then screw it, I'll buy a lizard.

Are you going to be able to keep one again though? The set up is going to cost a fortune for a fully grown one, they more often than not need a pond! Not forgetting a serious filter system, heater, uva/b lighting and a basking spot!Lizard set ups can be expensive too depending on what species you go for!

as i just mentioned, i had one a few years ago, i own a 125 gallon tank with a large basking area, filtration, uv lighting. i kept 2 before, i gave them away because i was moving.

but i think i rather land turtles, do you know anything of box turtles?
