do you want it to have internal storage?i recently got a acryan playon!hd and love it,can be used over a network or via usb or the internal drive, you could get the mini version which doesnt take an internal drive but can be networked and plays everything i have thrown at it

Traditionally the Popcornhour and Tvix boxes have been the benchmark. I have a tvix 6500a and it's awesome, however sometimes movement is a little blurry with dark mkv's. Im not sure if this is the box, my 100Mhz Sony Bravia, or a combination of both. I've always wanted to try it on another HDTV for this purpose. It donesn't happen with sky hd though, not by a long shot.

It's a fantastic player, but looking for somethin a bit more recently-released, and therefore more stable, would prob be a good idea.

does the archos have some pvr stuff going on and does it play hd mkvs?

was just looking at the WD TV™ Live Media Player, it seems good enough. i could still reach for the popcorn hour too to later put the blueray into it but money is the issue.

xtreamer, popcorn hour or wd tv??

Great media streamer if you have a network. Can add an internal drive or leave as is.

The HDI DuneHD 3.0 unit will do everything you want, including the hd audio passthrough to a suitable amp. It'll also retain the menu and interactive options of the bluray, if that's the way you have it ripped.
You can add an internal hdd and bd drive in the same unit, though it's not advisable due to overheating problems.

It's a pricey bit of kit though.

Ya didn't mention what kind of home server you have. So just for the sake it I'll mention that Windows Vista/7 Premium/Ultimate versions come with Media Centre, and the new DivX codecs include the ability to stream MKV's to XBox/PS3.

More details on DivX home page. I've tested this out a fair amount and it's completely satisfying for me anyway.

Hope that might help you out, or maybe save you some cash too.

    Cheers

I've got a windows home server, its cool, did you install the divx mkv pack on the server and then play them through the media center on the xbox?

    I got me a TVIX HD M-6600A/N
So far over wired or wireless works great with .mkv files
there new firmware that allows you to use thumbnail pics
    is a great add on.

    I got mine form here

I have it now for about 4 months and have no complaints as of yet.
