Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

that doesn't look like a product key (usually 5x5 characters long), oem product keys are usually on a sticker attached to the original machine that vista came installed on

I think the op is asking what do about getting the software as all he has is the key. Good link though, might come in handy in future.

OP if your PC didnt come with any Vista disk then its a bit tricky. You could try and download Vista via a torrent but it would be a big download and there is no guarantee that it will be legit i.e. not contain cracks, malware etc. Do you have anyone you could borrow a vista disk from? Maybe contact Microsoft and ask them to post you a disk, if they say no just say you have a legitimate key?

What brand of PC is it. It might have a restore partition to reset to factory defaults without using a cd or dvd

its a packard bell about 3 years old. No partition visible on the drive from the bios or the my computer screen.

Sorry, I was posting on the fly! But that keyfinder is vey handy alright.

Tom, do you know anyone else that has a Vista DVD? If you could get a loan of one you should have no trouble using your own product key.

A recovery partition might not show up in My Computer. Try clicking on Start then right click Computer and click Manage. Then click on disk management and see if there are any hidden partitions on your drive. If there are you may be able to restore like this:

After BIOS screen(s) at startup hit F8
    Choose "Repair your computer"
You will then have to choose your keyboard layout and log on.
Now there may be an option at the bottom of the list that will let you restore a factory image but that all depends on the way the manufacturer set the machine up... (eg on a DELL there is an option called "Dell factory image restore")
