    With the horses its hard to know what to give priorty to - the trainer, the horse, the jockey, something else or a bit from column a and a bit from column b. Following jockeys is as a rule probably the least profitable of the three mentioned. However there are riders who are talented beyond their horses odds and De Sousa and Gannon are two of them.

    However you have to know when to back and when not to, both are almost specialist sprint jocks 5 and 6 furlong turf flat racing in particular. Neither show anything until April and De Sousa disappears off to warmer climes at the end of October.

    The profile of a typical De Sousa win is a 2/3 year old maiden/handicap run at the following tracks Catterick, Doncaster, Hamilton, Thirsk, York.

    Gannon, again 5 and 6 furlongs on 2 and 3 year olds for greatest profit but she does ride quite a few at longer distances on 4 year olds. She rides most profitably at Brighton, Leicester, Lingfield (A.W), Nottingham, Warwick and Windsor. Handicaps (3 year olds)/maidens (2 year olds) and sellers (4 year olds) all turned a good ROI last year.

    This log will follow both through the 2010 flat season from April 1st.
