Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dual Booting Query

My laptop came preinstalled with Vista (64bit) which I used for a while. I then decided to dual boot vista with 7 (64bit) and have been using 7 ever since.

I now want to get rid of Vista and I am going to install XP Pro (64bit) and dual boot that with my current version of 7. I have my reasons for this but thats another thread.

I just want to know if I'll run into any complications or what would be the best way of going about this? Is it as simple as backing up the content on my vista drive, sorting the partition size to the way I want, deleting the vista partiton and install XP on that partition and install the drivers?

    Cheers

Create 2 NTFS partitions, 1 for 7 & the other for XP, Install xp first, then install 7, 7's new boot loader should auto detect the windows xp install, and provide a option to switch between them,

    Cheers for the reply.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but I would really prefer not to reinstall windows 7 as I have it set up just the way I want... was really only looking to swap out vista for xp if possible.

There is a program called EasyBCD that might be able to help... I reckon you would install XP over Vista and then EasyBCD should be able to set up your bootloader the way you want it.

Ahh I misunderstood the question, sorry! You should be able to install xp 64bit over the windows vista partition, you will then need to pop in the windows 7 dvd (after installing xp) and running start up repair, this should restore the bootloader and it should detect xp aswell, but as always back up everything jic :),

Edit, probably better off using h8red's advice, forgot about that tool :)

I dunno yoyo. Your way is excellent too! I myself find EasyBCD kinda hard to get to grips with. Maybe that's just me... :D

    Cheers for the replies lads.

I've used EasyBCD before, was actually looking on their website after I posted my original question so that looks like the way I'll try it.

    Thanks again for the suggestions.
