Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'll never forget the night United played there and got eliminated from the CL. As soon as I heard the crowd before kick-off, I knew we were in for an awful night. So intimidating.

Remember that game. We experienced the same thing later that year in the second round. Just a rabid set of fans.

They have looked good all year, are on course to win their league. Benfica were a complete shambles last season, and they look to have turned the club around. They will impact upon the CL next year imo.

    Dont get the Simpsons reference.

Benfica's game in Europe this season

    Benfica 2 - 0 Bate
    Benfica 5 - 0 Everton
    Benfica 2 - 1 AEK
    Benfica 4 - 0 Hertha
    Benfica 1 - 1 Marseilles

Everton were in disarry when they visited and Hertha are bottom of the Bundesliga and look certainties to be relegated.
AEK are no great shakes and neither are BATE.
Marseilles are a decent side and the tie was very close

    KUNG-FU Tastic ......Seriously ref:eek:

Agger is not a poor defender. He's been our best defender this year, though it's not saying much

    And he just scored.

    Johson: not close defensively
    Agger: poor center back defensively
    Insua: a downgrade from Aurellio

Overall: a back four much disimproved at attacking the ball from set pieces

    :p:p:p

    Cheers for that.

From when Homer romped home in the 'design a model powerplant' children's competition. i.e. their opposition has been limited, but they've dealt with them more than capably. Their away performances at Everton and Marseille were pretty money.

Cardozo should have buried that. Agger handily beat there. He's such a ****ing liability at the back. :(

Have you heard of physics? The word momentum comes into my mind...Running full at speed + getting tackled = falling forwards

Johnson's final ball was poor there after a good little move with Kuyt.

If he was wearing a United shirt he would have gotten a penalty

according to pronunciation website kuyt is pronounced Kout not Koyt as Trev insists on calling him.

Remember it now. Would agree they're a very good side but they have played some pretty soft opposition as well to get to tonight. Tv3 seem to be arguing that they have been hammering a vast array of the cream of Europe.

    Cardoza looking lively
Di Maria giving Johnson something to think about

    Stevie's back lads.

we've reached April, and he's returned it seems.

Babel: always looking to cut back on his right and shoot. Must be a very easy player to do your homework for with a bit of video review.

Gerrard has started really, really well imo.

Actually I'm even annoying myself at this stage! Ok I'll zip it.

In fairness the goal has made the game pretty interesting, pity Benfica's final ball is so poor at the moment.

lol, whatever man. I like his skills on the ball like every other fan, but it doesn't earn him a free pass on defending. He's easily the worst long term starter we've had at the position apart from Traore this decade.

Where have you been for 3 years?......people have calling for him to get a chance on the right side for ages. (and he has done well there in the handfull of chances he has got)

Benfica should be level, if not winning at this stage. Two great chances and they didn't take either of them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,516 ✭✭✭Hoki

That Di Maria fella sure can run with the ball at his feet , great looking player in the twenty mins iv seen of him , wouldnt mind seeing him on our left flank.

i have no idea why Babel doesn't play on the right. We won't lose anything from Kuyt if he's on the left.
