I downloaded the 10.3 patch and since then I can't play the game. If I try to start it up a little box pops up with "not well-formed(invalid token) at line 1 of default.xml" written in it, with a heading of "XML parsing error". Anyone had this before or know how to fix it?

Was the update interrupted? Did you download it yourself or through the in-game update feature?

My advice, delete FM 2010 (save any saved games!) and start afresh. Then install 1.1 patch, launch game and see if it's still okay, then 1.2 and check and then (with a new copy of) 1.3 and launch game!

Or, see if it's your PC. Maybe your XML core services corrupted? Highly doubt it since it only happened after patching.
