Ronaldo has an insane amount of his goals this season by means of peno and free-kick.

That is a massive difference between him and Messi.

Messi scores far more from open play.

As I said my steam is a bit laggy, but the defender threw his leg out and never looked like getting anywhere near the ball, Ronaldo was caught. whether or not he could've stayed on his feet it was a foul.

From memory alone I think Ronaldo has about 7 freekick (all Comps) and around 3 Peno (league).

If he had scored say 10 penos I would agree with you, but discounting his tally based on the amount of freekicks is wrong.

It's usually harder to score a freekick than score from open play.

Players like Juninho, Beckham and Ronaldo all have a very rare and unique talent to score from free-kicks compared to players as a whole.

I would not look down on a player's scoring record because of a high percentage of set piece goals.

If you're going to say Ronaldo's record is less impressive due to his set piece goals, go through all other strikers goals and compare how many tap ins, or easier chances are included in others' records, will you discount them too?

Given the amount of Freekicks he took, I'd say he conversion rate was well under 10%.

To say Ronaldo scores less would have been absurd when you consider over the past 3 seasons he has more goals than Messi

Beckham has somewhere between 60-70 in his career which is very high.

I know Juninhio also has quite a high amount, definitely over 50.

You say more than 10% from open play but I would wager them players couldnt score anywhere close to the amount these players can from free-kicks. Also these players get far less attempts from free-kicks than strikers get from open play.

That is common sense but its not what I said.

I already pointed out that talent is required for free-kicks and that certain players possess a unique knack for doing it which makes it easier for them players to score from free-kicks than your average player.
