Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Worth fixing a Canon Ixus?

Our 20 month old was playing with Mrs.Milltown's Canon Ixus point and shoot camera the other day and she noticed afterwards that the lens cover, that opens when you turn the camera on, is now broken (stuck half way). If memory serves, the camera was around €300 a year or two ago but I just had a look on Pixmania and this: http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/2409353/art/canon/digital-ixus-95-is-silver.html# looks to be a newer, slightly higher spec (in MP at least) model, for €145.

I'm sure I already know the answer but, it's hardly worth getting the old one repaired is it?
Just in case it is, now that the camera shop seems to be gone from Lucan, where would you recommend?

Unlikely. Once out of warranty hardly any point anymore.

    I disagree.

It's worth finding out how much it would cost to repair. I recently had a problem with a P&S camera (a Panasonic) I have had for about 16 months. Went in to Gunnes for a recommendation for where to get it repaired, and they sent to a shop in Dublin. Cost me 50 euro and had it back in under a week. I don't think the shop handle Canon.

To get a replacement for my camera would have cost at minimum 3 times that amount.

If you are happy with your camera, put a call in to your local camera shop (that sells Canon) and ask them where to take/ send it. Call that company and ask for a rough estimate of how much it would cost to repair. Then use your judgement whether to get it repaired or buy new.
