Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

In light to today's events prepare for even more of her from next week.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51 ✭✭cobwebs

Mary will no longer be required once the elction is on. The more serious politicians will now take over. Mary will have to fight for an odd spot even on local radio.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 2,503 Mod ✭✭✭✭dambarude

If she is elected there's a good chance she'll be given a job on the FF opposition frontbench as spokesperson for something or other. There'll probably be enough spokesperson jobs to give to every FF TD at that stage (if the party still exists!) Prepare to hear even more from her!

She's been missing for over 48 hours now.

    Is this a record !

    Her silence is golden. :D

Mary O'Rourke is harping on about some young journalist (think she said Elane Byrne) who wrote an article about sex. She is saying in the Dail how she hopes she continues being able to have sex for many years to come.

She is totally nuts. Just waffling on as if she was having a chat with her friend over a cup of coffee. How is this nonsense allowed? This is meant to be a debate on the Finance Bill. She is now giving out about people who complain about her going to funerals.

Think a Mattie McGrath watch forum could be set up aswell as this mammy 1. Hes everywhere today and been everywhere when theres a story breaking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,236 ✭✭✭sdanseo

She's been nattering on in Dáil Éireann about nothing to do with the fúcking finance bill for several minutes now, and has just been told by Séams Kirk she can continue to do so for another five minutes.

What a waste of money paying her to be there - we should be getting this bloody bill through and nothing else.

I did suggest this as far back as Sept. of last year but Mattie went into hibernation then for a while. He's clearly awoken from his slumber now....unfortunately. The thoughts of this muppet doing a Jackie Healy Rae or a Michael Lowry and holding the country to ransom is thankfully merely that, a thought, such will be the majority in the next Dail.

I can imagine his demands were he given such power though - free Farah slacks for the over 55s; drink driving laws to be completely abolished; tractors having the right of way on all roads; all dogs to be trained for coursing; 'Killinaskully' and 'Mattie' to be on continuous loop on RTE; no tax for residents of Tipperary; the Greens to be rounded up and shot; 70foot statues of Bertie and CJ to be erected in every city, town and village in the country; the National Anthem changed to 'Cotton Eyed Joe'; a nationwide ban on elocution lessons.....I could go on.....

She's on Pat Kenny now saying she thinks it was unfair the way Cowen was "hounded" out by members of the party....am I hallucinating or was she not one of the people speaking out against him at the end???

Incredible stuff. She was the women who said publically (on PK's own show I think) that Mary Cowen should have a word in Brian's ear and tell him it was time to go. And not only that but her nephew Conor Lenihan fronted the rebels and publically demanded Cowen resign - appearing on every radio and TV show there was complaining how Cowen's own actions had eroded confidence in politics as a whole.

Even more amazing is that the Plank didn't even take her up on her comments. Interviewers never seem to want to upset her.

I just had a terrible thought - if she doesn't get elected to the Dail, she may put herself forward for the Seanad elections

That's what she did in 2002.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

No doubt she will do it again.

With all the panels packed to gills with FF cronies she will be a shoe in.

Good grief, she is lecturing and "I always enjoyed public speaking"...."Mmm".."Yes"..."I had a phone call before I came up here...." The woman is switched onto her own wavelength and garrulously saunters on oblivious of how idiotic and removed from reality she is:D

The Sindo's and The Mail's lastest constituency by constituency guides are predicting that Mary will be losing her seat. Boards.ie's poll have her 10th in a 4 seat constituency. Obscurity beckons, hopefully.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Nah! The senate beckons for her.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭Rubik.

Not if FG/Lab make good on their promise to get rid of it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

But there will be an interim senate until it can be abolished. She will be there until the bitter end.

She's back and forward between the Seanad and the Dáil more often than a tennis ball in Wimbledon.

Yeah, I just had look at how appointments to the Seanad are made and even with a FG/Labour Government it is possible she could be back. Ah ****.

    She has no shame..

She just spoke on Newstalk and conceded defeat.

She also said she doesn't want a seat in The Senate.

Love her or hate her, politics will be less colourful without her.

Not that we've heard the last of her by any means.

In fact she'll now have more time on her hands to conduct radio interviews.

Oh, she also happened to mention that there's a book on the way.

Expect this thread to become known as Mary O'Rourke Plug Watch in the months ahead.

All political careers end in failure, but rarely such a record of abject failure as Mammy's.

I would be very worried that this will give her more time to appear on panel shows and the like..

My proud and noble cock poster, politics will be all the better that Mammy has finally been given a boot up the hole from the electorate.

Waste of taxpayers money, pontificating about events from the sidelines, even though she was a central part of the Govt. who fcuked up this country.

Piss off now Mammy and don't impose yourself and your outrageous pension on the public.

    Your race has run.

I was thinking about this, as she is no longer in the Dail and FF are not in power she will increasingly be out of the loop and so I suspect radio producers will phase her out, rather than seek her "insight" at the drop of a hat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,264 ✭✭✭Poochie05

    That hasn't stopped her before.
She was on radio last year talking about the FG leadership battle and her first answer to the question about what was going on was 'I don't know' but they still let her speculate and blather for a few minutes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

It hasn't stopped RTE/Newstalk/Today FM you mean, they phone her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,141 ✭✭✭Yakuza

Good riddence. She should have stayed out of politics after the clusterfúck of the Eircom privatisation. Instead, Bertie puts her into the palace of the undead politicians; the Seanad.

/bye bye Mammy. Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out.

    And thar she blows!
Get used to it, the old witch will be sent by PK to report on cake events and jumble sales around the country on a weekly basis - mark my words!

I heard Mammy O Rourke on Radio 1 this morning talking to Pat Kenny and she said "In the election Fianna Fail got what they deserved". I agree with her but if she thought FF were doing something wrong why didn't she call a halt to it and voice her opinion before this.
BTW she also managed to get in a plug for her book. Surprise surprise!

Don't worry boys and girls, Mammy will soon fade away.

You see , the media will lose interest in a loser very fast.

    That's how it works.

My only concern would be that some station would give her a slot to temporarily boost ratings.

    otherwise she is gonzo

    Nah. It's Mammy O'Rourke we're discussing. Ergo:

    "It's role in my downfall".

Remember the FF idiom: Self before Party, Party before Country.

I told ye all.. She has more time on her hands now, so she will be used by all radio stations as their filler when they cant get anybody significant on the show....

Talking about that infuriating Dept Of Finance report... which assigns blame to everybody whose left with huge pensions, and blames nobody currently in the civil service... So pretty much the report the Department of Finance requested of the "independent" people who carried it out..

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,630 ✭✭✭steelcityblues
