Nearly two months between posts, I said once she was "out of the loop" we'd hardly hear from her.
She was doing TV rather than radio- TV3 standing in for Vinno Browne!

Heard a clip of her on one of the stations where she was claiming that whoever was President wouldn't be able to speak their mind and would be off-limits for 7 years....

.....she called it "a prison", but I suddenly thought "Mary O'Rourke for President"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,575 ✭✭✭✭FlutterinBantam

Hmmm can't think of too many instances where Mammy 'spoke her mind' when she was actually a member of a failed Govt.

Plenty of auld rhetoric and rá meish when she is just collecting a huge wedge of taxpayers money and she is no longer relevant of course.

Anyone who puts too much importance on the mammy's utterances these days needs to take a look at themselves.

Time she faded off the scene with her dynasty.

She did once or twice, on-air, but she is a complete contemptible hypocrite because she never voted or acted accordingly in the Dáil.

That AND the general inane ràmeis she comes out with are the reason 7 years of silence from her is VERY appealing; I don't know why radio shows value her contributions - I don't think I've EVER heard her say something worthwhile or consistent with her actions.

I believe this thread may have got a reference on five-seven live yesterday. Ferghal Keane was doing a report on "where are they now: the careers of former Government ministers" and he referred to internet discussions [he may have said websites] which had been set up just to keep track the Mammy O'Rourke's public broadcasting.

Is that what you heard? I heard her and didn't hear a single excuse for Bertie.

Might it be that your personal views have skewed what she said into claiming that she was making excuses for Bertie?

What I heard was that the said that if his duaghters want to give him a party, and to pay for that party out of their own money, why should anyone else crib about that, as its a private matter and they are entitled to give the Dad a party, especially if they are paying for it.

Can you tel us what excuse she made for him?

Sorry easy, I was quoting the man himself in his infamous "go and commit suicide speech".
The reality now is that people are committing suicide over the dire predicaments they find themselves in.
Anyone brought forward to defend the actions of Ahern, is disgusting

I think the point is she wasn't making excuses for him, and to claim that she was simply isn't fair. Thats why I made my post as I dislike unfairness.

Don't know whats worst - that she rang the Pat Kenny show to go on air complaining about the people complaining about Berties private party tonight OR the fact that PK gave her the first spot on the show.

Noticed that when Pat asked her a question about FF she was suddenly not on the line anymore......

Doesn't the President need government permission to speak in public and is generally expected keep their opinions to themselves on political and other matters?

If so, I recommend Mary O'Rourke for nomination as President of Ireland for the next 14 years.

Maybe she could "invest" all her multiple pensions in Eircom shares.

Sam Smyth On Sunday... the Irish Times' Environment Editor Frank McDonald was talking about whether he felt sorry or not for people who had bought houses on Aylesbury Road.. and similar trophy properties... He said..

Frank: "During the casino property culture and the banking culture that we had which, of course, was aided and abetted by Mary O'Rourke's colleagues in Government with all the mad tax incentives that were continued on way after their sell by date... that encouraged people to value property more highly than capital investment in business.."

Mary: "Funny, I wouldnt even rise to you Frank... "

    Frank: "Because you couldn't."

Mary: "*laughs*... cos I wouldnt be interested in so doing, cos I know that's your purpose"..

No Mary, he actually put to you a truism... which you fob off because even though you voted with the party whip every time, you dont want to take responsibility for .. She really is a despicable, dishonest creature..

It's news to you that Fianna Fail TD's are whipped through the lobbies? Why is she any more a "despicable, dishonest creature" than any other Fianna Fail TD who was also whipped through the lobbies?

Why is she any more a "despicable, dishonest creature" any more than the Fianna Fail ministers who actually created and enacted the legislation you talk about?

I really do not see what value you bring to the radio forum whatsoever. All you ever seem to do is stir schit and pick rows

Because they're not on the radio every week trying to resurrect a party that has done untold damage to the people of this country ?

Very poor show on radio this morning.
She gets free reign to pass her judgement on each candidate with no questioning at all.

I know FF don't have a dog in this fight (officially), but she is still a politico.

Is that the point about Dana's promise to 'protect' the constitution? I heard Mary's cosy chat with John Murray this week. She waffled on about referendums when she knows very well that the president's job is to protect the constitution from the government. Something M Aleese totally failed to do. Just ask Eddie Hobbs.

O'rourke is a total spin merchant who, like Jim Power should be totally banned from the airwaves... Dream on mbur.

It will be interesting to see, in her buke, how she deals with the way her party steered Ireland to ruin. Will she just ignore the topic, will she be frank and analytical, or will she try to spin it that it wasn't really Fianna Fail.

The bit that had me reaching for the dial was when she made a grab for the sympathy vote by mentioning her dear lost nephew, the unfortunate Brian.

It made me recall this comment from Gerald Celente:

She's quite vocal about the matter
