Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi Guys,

I have a Vauxhall corsa 2000 1.7 diesel. It's running really well. But one thing is really annoying me the fan belt i brought it to my local garage to tighten the belt. Yeah it worked with with no probs for a week. Had to bring it back tighten it again. And now I have to bring it back again, to the same garage is it just me or is this garage a bunch of cowboys??

Would they have not of fixed it then and there instead i have to waste my time, keep bringing it back..

    Help!!

Depending on which belt it is, it could also be that the unit it drives (alternator, servo pump, water pump) is on its way out and starting to seize up.

You could fix it yourself with a few turns of a spanner, it's very easy but the new belt shouldn't be squeaking, are you sure they put a new one in?

If a belt has started squealing then its worn, tightening it is only a very temporary fix and will actually accelerate its wear. They are only about €10 to buy new!

The garage should also be checking for any issues with the pullies etc instead of just tightening it..

Pour some talcum powder or baby powder on it to stop it squeaking. It wont fix your problem but it will shut it up for now. Get it checked ASAP ;)

If the belt was brand new, it will stretch abit and if the garage did not allow for this by tightening it up abit extra in the first place it will slip again and need re adjusting. Had this problem alot with new belts.... Nothing major just keep tightening it up until it stops completely.

You can also get anti squeel spray for belts, my mate used it on his Altezza and it worked a charm.
