Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pop-up Flash Diffuser test

My lucky day... 1st day with the new camera and the sky is completely overcast and rainy.

As my cheapo pop-up flash diffuser which I ordered off eBay has just arrived I decided to give it a try and see how it works.

This is the "impressive" pop-up flash diffuser unit:

And below is a comparison of flash without diffuser vs flash with diffuser vs no flash, higher ISO, longer exposure:

You can see that the shadows are much softer when the diffuser is used, but the shot without flash is still the best. However, you don't always have that option, so in cases where you must use the flash the diffuser will certainly be useful. And it only cost me 14.50 EUR including the shipping so can't go wrong really.

Just wanted to share this while I'm stuck inside and can't play with my new toys just yet. :)

Did you change the white balance setting or is it the same for all three photos ?

Nice results there Dimy for something so small and convenient. I used to use two of those Puffer diffusers on the MT-24EX macro twinlite flash. They fit perfectly with amazing results too. Here's a link to an article about it. nocroppingzone.blogspot.com

WB is the same for all three shots. The colors get much colder with flash.

I FIND #3 BEST AND #2 THE WEAKEST.

It's not that much of a difference TBH. You'd still be better off bouncing the flash or using an unbrella or something. In the case of direct flash like this all the diffuser does, unless it's considerably bigger than the flash (think softbox) is weaken the flash.

You can make a diffuser that gives almost exactly the same results out of an empty milk carton. Just cut the handle, and if needed, double it over. Waste of money IMO. I hate on board flash too, but diffusers don't seem to really make shots much better.
