Don't think anyone mentioned Roger Daltrey yet?

I guess Bowie doesn't count as he plays occasionally?

In that case, almost certainly Robert Plant.

Bon Scott & John Lydon coming close behind.

All other contenders are mere pretenders. :)

    Bez

    /runs and hides

In reality there are too many to state 'who was / is the best'

BTW to whoever said Ian Brown - you'd never seen the 'Roses live, have ya? Apart form his monkey magic dance, he's chronic. Cant /Couldn't even sing live.

Steve Tyler defo up there, Brian Johnson, Axl etc etc they've all been mentioned before.

I'd mention Chris Cornell, but I think he originally played drums, and plays the guitar the odd time..

Also, I would assume that 'frontman' would mean a lead vocalist in a 'band' not a solo artist with a band playing behind them...

The mind automatically shifts to people who play guitars, but of course Freddie played a superb piano and also did his stint on the guitar while playing "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"

@El Pr0n - saw Howlin' Pelle myself in Madrid, he is a superb performer, doesn't leave anything on stage when he's done, he really give it his all.

Arrgghh! I change my mind if Freddie counts! How could I forget Freddie?

Easily the best - and I'm not even that much into Queen.

    Jim Morrison or Liam Gallagher.

Could never decide between the two.

Whatever you think of the music, their stage presence is unquestionable.

Michael Stipe didn't play the flute. I thought you were making a homophobic comment. Sorry if I'm wrong here, if that's the case then I'm way out of line, but otherwise...

I know. That's why I asked if he counts. Not that many frontmen never play an instrument.

    E.g. Jagger, Plant

Damo Suzuki, during his time spent with Can. Their best albums, I reckon. Very influential in the early Happy Mondays sound...

    Mick Pyro
    Chester Bennington
    Maurice White

****ing yes! Although the word 'in' is very important, cause with pretty much every other band he's played in you'll see a keyboard or two and a ****load of his own tech lying about the place and can barely go too far away from it when he's playing... Especially with Fantômas, Mr. Bungle and Tomahawk. Even had his **** with him with Dillinger Escape Plan.

But I can just restrict my choice, it's never as easy as picking the one guy in these things! Others for me would be Layne Staley (apart from his 3 notes in "Angry Chair"), Phil Anselmo can't be ****ing ignored, Maynard James Keenan as mentioned before, Robert Plant, Ozzy (bad singer though), Chuck Billy, Bobby Blitz... Definitly more, just can't be arsed thinking this tired.
