Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

liverpools away form in the league, indeed overall has been horrible, 2 away wins since mid september tells its own story, this coming off the back of their best ever away form last year

birmingham have a great home record

i only see one winner here folks

Seriously, only 2 away wins since Sept....
Didn't realise that, certainly makes today a tough enough prospect!!!

surprised this match isnt on tv over here

Only a win is good enough today, and for each of the five league games after today.

Anything less and the faint hope of catching City, should they slip up, is gone.

Given the three games that Spurs have next, I am pretty confident that their four point advantage will be wiped out.

Our away form is the big worry though.

Extraodinarily big nmatch for the Scouse.

I expect them to step up and take the win and finally make a decisive move for 4th.

    Torres hat trick.

A Birmingham win is more likely then a Liverpool one.

Possession possession possession,! especially away from home, this stat needs to be increased by 10% mad0071.gif
midfield too quick to move ball, need to string more passes together, hold ball for longer periods! take the easy pass to retain ball..if nothing on why play it up to torres , be patient, knock it about ,barcelona like!
will make us better defensively too logically!
we give ball away to cheaply

This is going to be interesting. Liverpools away form is shocking, Brums is good, Liverpool need this win to capitalise on Spurs ****ing up, with City still plowing away, huge game.

Can see liverpool winning this easily, they have to,and usually perform when its do or die,

Hopefully Liverpool can get the win here but i wouldnt bet in it.

I reckon it will be a close game, 1-0 or 2-1.

Liverpool team: Reina Johnson, Carragher, Kryiakos, Insua, Benayoun, Maxi, Gerrard, Lucas, Kuyt, Torres

    Team:

Reina, Insua, Johnson, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Lucas, Gerrard, Rodriguez, Benayoun, Kuyt, Torres.

Subs: Cavalieri, Agger, Aquilani, Babel, Ngog, Degen, Mascherano.

I'm happy with that team, though Lucas in for Masch is a surprise. It's an attacking line up in a game we really need to win.

Aqua is on the bench by the way!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,435 ✭✭✭ilovelamp2000

If Torres isn't on top form we're in difficulty.

Gerrard and Lucas have never played a good game together in CM. I'd love to know why Agger and Mascherano are dropped.

Are our priorities mixed up ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,910 ✭✭✭✭whatawaster

No mascherano is a huge surprise. He must be injured

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

no, i'd imagine he's out cause he is bolloxed from the mammoth performance he put in the other night. very happy wit that line-up.

With no senior LB available in the Europa League, I reckon Agger is being saved for the Benfica game to play LB.

Mascherano has played an awful lot of games in fairness and probably needs a break. In saying that I don't get if that is the case why he wasn't rested in one of our last 2 homes games.

Tough game today. I have a feeling it will be a draw unless Fernando steps us.

Masch always had to be rested for this.

he was THAT immense on Thursday.

i have every faith in Lucas to do a decent job in his absence.

it's the bloke beside him i hope will turn up.

Strange that agger and masch are dropped considering they have been playing well, while Lucas has been poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,337 ✭✭✭✭monkey9

Birmingham team: Hart Carr Johnson Dann Ridgewell Gardner bowyer Ferguson Fahey Mcfadden Jerome

Subs: Taylor Phillips Michel Benitez Vignal Larsson Parnaby

Once Jerome doesn't score a wonder goal again, I reckon we might be ok.

The thing about Masch being on the bench is that with us opting for what seems to be a 4-4-2, it looks as if we're gonna be taking the game to Birmingham. And in a more attacking line up, Lucas is a better attacking midfielder than Masch.

If we have a lead to defend late on, Masch will probably come on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,555 ✭✭✭Gillington

I don't seeLiverpool winning this but Birmingham dont score much so I reckon a 1-1 draw.

    So simplistic.

There is far more to it than goals and assists.

I think Mascherano is very disciplined in his positioning. If he is told that he is the DM (which he always is) then he plays deep and doesnt try to get forward. Lucas on the other hand has been given licence to go forward many times (usually when paired with Masch) and has very little to show for it. Masch is faster, is a better dribbler and they are probably equal at passing and shooting. I just dont think we get to see the attacking side of Masch because he is so good at the defensive.

As improved as Lucas has been this season, he desperately needs to improve in regards to scoring and creating goals.

    There certainly is.

But Lucas isn't better than Mascherano defensively or offensively.

I think Lucas is better at finding that little through ball to Torres or someone else bombing into the box than maybe Masch is. I think his passing is that bit more intricate.
