    Hi Folks

The wife wants an Audi TT, probably 2008 would be the oldest we would go for. I would appreciate any advice regarding all aspects of purchasing one i.e. the best version to go for, what to avoid, known faults, etc etc and the price I should expect to fork out!!!

    Thanks in advance

Why buy a sportscar that's only going to be run down to the shops and work? The TT is designed to be driven hard occassionally, if you don't it'll end up costing you money. I'd recommend an MX-5 instead. Far less to go wrong.

    Jumping to conclusions a little...

Thanks Confab - that would be a perfect reply if the question I asked was "should we buy an Audi TT". Perhaps you could re-read my post and give some advice, if you have any?

Another good review site. I have one of the older ones, I think they're a great car. And I only drive mine to work and to the shops as well

Parker's have a comprehensive review with loads of stats and owner reviews as well...I always find them useful

The VAG petrol turbo lumps don't mind being driven sedately, it's not a Ferrai or Lambo that will be farting and chomping at the bit below 2000rpm. Diesels need a good spanking regularly.

I used to own an old model TT quattro. Completely different car so wont comment in that regard.
I now drive an Audi A5 front drive petrol & based on that I would not buy another front drive modern audi with anything over about 140 bhp. I feel that a front drive TT 2.0Tfsi with 200 bhp might have severe problems putting the power down so that is something to look closely at if testing driving. I would go for quattro everytime. THe 2.0 tdi quattro TT sounds good on paper but the diesel engine might not be the nicest thing to have in a TT.
I would say go for quattro though for sure.

If you want quattro in an 08 you have to go for the TDi, 3.2 V6 or a TTS. The 3.2 and TTS are in limited supply here, only one of each for sale at the moment but plenty available in the UK. The fwd 2.0T handles the power pretty well, just as a GTI does but the TT is over 100kg lighter and has a better weight distribution (6% front to rear shift), so is a little bit quicker, handles better and has very little understeer.

Here are a couple of reviews :)

Not really anything big to worry about on these, they are quite reliable. Just the usual, make sure it has a service history (S-Tronic has a 60k km service interval) ect..
