Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This is a bit of an unusual thread but I hope you'll be good enough to humour me. I want to see a comparison of the socio/economic views of Christians here and compare it to athiests. I'm creating a similiar thread in the A&A forum. This is a really good online test, the political compass. Please state which denomination of Christianity you adhere too.

    I'm not into politics...

    Economic Left/Right: -1.50
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.13

Thats pretty much in the centre.

I'm an Evangelical Christian who happens to worship in a Presbyterian Church

    Catholic.

I think that the test is rather un-nuanced and lacks a "Don't care" option.

Apparently I'm somewhat to the left of Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama.

    Evangelical / Pentecostal

That was just a joke, I doctored the graph, the red dot should have been around where Gandhi and Mandela reside. :D

I think I'd need to make an animated gif showing the red dot moving around all over the place to show what I'd expect :p

    Economic: -5.25
    Social: -1.38

I was Evangelical Christian, but Evangelicalism moved on and I stayed...

BTW. Everyone seems to be green - is there really value in this compass?

It depends. The Politics Forum did the same quiz and there were a lot of purple box libertarians. Authoritarians of either economic scale seem fairly rare on boards.

I would imagine that given Christianity's concern for the poor and of solidarity, Christians would tend to be moved onto the left, while their mixed social views (the consistent life ethic etc ) would place them onto the centre of the authoritarian (most people on this thread come within -5 and +5 with the majority appearing within -2 and +2)

I havent done this for some time but I did it twice about two years apart and usually land fairly much on top of Ghandi, which is odd because I don't consider myself as left although Im very much anti authoritian.

If you arte interested in the subject You might look up "christian anarchists" or you might take a llok at Leo Festingers "dissonance" theory.

One similar scale is the RWA scale Delevlped by aleemeyer

Here is a free book on it well worth the read:

I knocked out somewhere around Gandhi too which surprised me.

edit - tried again and copied it this time

    Economic Left/Right: -7.50
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.69

I also noted that they stated the following:

"A diverse professional team has assessed the words and actions of internationally known contemporary leaders to give you an idea of how they relate to each other on the political compass"

I wonder could they also do the same with the New Testament and see where Jesus would have mapped.

Roman Catholic (Irish but not an Irish Catholic :) )
