I created a similiar thread in the Christianity forum. I'd like to compare the socio-economic views of athiests and Christians. This test is the political compass map. It's pretty good.

Ah, the political compass. If I recall correctly (not doing it again), I appear somewhere towards the bottom left. But then it seems so do most Europeans - it's very US-centric.

Just because it's what everyone is doesn't mean it's the centre. So the Political Compass is fairly accurate, it's just that it seems a lot of leftie positions have become the default in Europe.

    Here's mine anyway.

This is for the UK, but it concerns me still:

Seems all parties are shifting up and to the right in general. Not sure how reliable the test is though.

Bottom left for me, tree-hugging hippy territory.

A few squares to the right of the Dalai Lama.

I'm just in the square without anyone in it.
Very close to the exact centre.
    Not sure what that means.

I was maybe a square down and a square right from the Dalai Lama.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,001 ✭✭✭ColmDawson

I'm pretty much where the Dalai Lama is on the graph below.

Alongside the Dalai Lama as well.

    Here's me.

It seems fairly accurate, although I noticed many of the questions seem to be kind of left-biased.

It'd be interesting to see the reasoning behind some of the questions too, to see how they contribute to the result.

I was tempted to create a version of this in the Buddhist forum but the results would have been a bit predicatble.

That's a good test, but some of the questions could be tweeked a little, and a "I have no opinion" option would be nice, apperently I'm just as left as Gandhi, and more of a libertarian.

    WOAH!

That is the most interesting and unexpected video I have ever seen...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,435 ✭✭✭iUseVi

    ^^^

LOL yeah well I differ from the Dalai Lama in many respects, but you have to remember that you can answer some questions in a completely opposite manner and end up with the exact same score.

That's what happens when you reduce a person's "political view" down to two numbers, doesn't give you all the facts. :P

Not really. The guy is an abstinate monk. Why would you think he'd have progressive views on sexuality?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 237 ✭✭DeBunny

Another Dalai Lama Neighboureeno. Thought I'd be closer to the centre.
Seems to be a lot of atheists close to the most religious person on the chart. Although judging by the above video he'd have a much different score if he actually took the test himself.

I just don't understand how this can happen. You think the state should have an interest in what happens in people's bedrooms? Multi-national corporations can be trusted to look after the environment and the needs of the people?

I just can't imagine the answers one would need to give to get a result like that.

Yeah, I am Hitler, Stalin, Thatcher and General Zod all rolled into one terrible grinning package. :pac:

Seriously though, this came up on After Hours before, and I didn't think much of the questions being asked in the test, just how US-politics related it is, and I don't think that such a compass is very accurate anyway, so I just answered in a farcical manner and posted the results as my own little protest. I think that considering the narrow spectrum of questions that the position on the compass I've gotten from such mock answers would be about as accurate to my true political leanings as it would if I had answered honestly and got the same left/libertarian leaning as everyone else; not that accurate at all.

I've done this test a million times and it always puts me in the middle of the bottom left square; if I placed myself, I'd be extreme-south just-left-of-centre.
