Is there anywhere in Galway city that's looking to hire a 16 y/o boy for part time work for the Summer? Honestly, I'm desperate. To the point of McDonalds standards.
    Thanks.

You might be saying " the point of mc donalds" but believe me its even hard to get a job there....Jobs are impossible to find this year..

I think you are exaggerating -really. I am not even english native speaker and my english is not perfect but I didnt have any problems with finding job -ever. It's not easy and frustrating , but not so bad like you would think after reading this depressing thread!

We have 400,000 unemployed people in this country, good for you that you got a job but it actually is as bad as this thread has suggested.

Sorry the thread depresses some people but facts are fact's - 113,000 long term unemployed figure released today .
    Article here

Sicken's me reading posts like the ones above to be honest as I make up one of those 113,000 people and have to leave the bloody country to find work. At least I have that option where as some people dont.

I left my country for the same reason and it was even worse- where I come from its not enough to find job, because even if you have it you cant live for money you earn- its so bad!I used to work in book shop and I earned about 200eu per month when prices where lower, but not that low! So you are lucky enough to be born here these days and even if you have to leave you will probably go to country like US, Australia, Canada, where everyone speaks english - so you can feel almost like at home! Imagine living somewhere in Japan or even closer in France- belive me even if your French was brilliant at school it will take you at least 6 month of frustration to start understanding what an average person is talking to you about!

Hi. I come from Canada and I don't feel at home in Ireland. Oh, and I'm long term unemployed too, although I'm not officially in the figures because I started my own business... due to being long term unemployed.

I'm glad you had no trouble finding work but there are hundreds of thousands of people who ARE having trouble.

I just said you can feel ALMOST like at home...and it's much more easier if you go to country where you speak the same language.

    Hi,
I'm a student looking for work (ANYTHING!) in Galway City or county. If anyone has any suggestions as to where might be a good place to apply please please send me a PM. I am just finished the Leaving Cert so I'm at a disadvantage for getting a job now, most of them are gone!
As suggested above I am willing to work at anything at this stage, thanks in advance :)

The whole dropping CVs in everywhere is fierce depressing. But it has to be done :(..

Does anyone here know anything about jobs going for the Galway Races?
It's only a week but word is the pay is good...!

I know of Lydon House Catering, but where would you apply for other jobs there? Selling programmes, etc etc!

try Tote Ireland. My son worked at the races and got fairly good money.

You can usually get the forms for the Races in Zhivago, they'll have a stack of them beside the tills. Get it in soon, I've heard they're not taking as many people on as usual this year.

I could do with some extra staff atm, but i can't afford to hire anybody new between finding it hard to collect money, no back up from my bank, extremely high insurance costs and the revenue people's requirements.

Not the kinda work for me but maybe theres someone out there skilled enough for that kinda work who is unemployed and just wants something to do and would be willing to do it at a reduced rate or even for free!

unfortunately the revenue (and certainly SW) probably wouldn't go for that - as galwayrush is undoubtedly aware.

What they dont know wont hurt them :D But what my point is and to give an example, i want to drive a truck & i hopefully will be fully qualified to do that next month but most truck driving jobs that are advertised all require a certain amount of experience.....i would be quiet happy to gain that experience for free for a couple of months and be able to put on my CV that i have x amount of months on the job.

Would it be wrong for galwayrush to take on somebody who has the qualifications on paper but not the experience on a free trial basis if in the long term was going to benefit him or her?

I'm looking to recruit somebody willing to walk around outside the venue of the Galway Races promoting an event wearing a sandwich board. The person would also have to walk around the city promoting the event. The maximum hours of work would be 10 hours. The person must be full of energy and not easily ashamed!! Quick response necessary!!! ;)

I used to hold a sign on Shop St and I got €5 an hour. It was for a family friend's business though and I was too young to work anywhere else so I'd hope that most people would be getting minimum wage for it.

I'd guess 2011, after they've built the new building. This is based to the City Tribune: http://www.galwaynews.ie/13711-company-create-100-jobs-major-galway-expansion.

Their existing building's actually in Parkmore West, not East, so I'm not sure if it's a whole new one or just an extension and the newspaper is confused. (And am too lazy to look to see if the planning app in yet).

It would be ten hours over the Thursday and Friday, so probably 6 hours on Thursday and 4 hours on the Friday, just a guess!! ;)
