Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Welcome to the forum (bit of a newbie myself). There is lots to learn here if you manage to navigate the cruelty of being exposed to some great talent (and also some ego's). Stick with it! :)

    I have a nice big poster of this one.. I need to get it framed & hang it!

    It was shot on B&W film & hand-printed in the darkroom, then I colored the aurora to approximately what I remembered seeing that night, and sepiatoned the lower half of the image.

    Thanks for noticing. Well here goes from what I can recall / ascertain;

    shot manual

    iso 400 - gave a nice bit of noise/grain
    focal length is recorded as 270mm
    f5.6 - for a nice bit of bokeh when combined with that focal length
    distance to subject was probably about 15-20ft.

    shot on my Pentax k20d with a budget Pentax zoom F 100-300mm

    in terms of processing;

    in lightroom beta, started with a 'glow' preset which sent the brightness and contrast sky high, whilst pulling back on the clarity, vibrance, and saturation.

    then I added a little black (well, you can never have too much blacks). I wanted the red in the image (lips / her top) to be striking against the muted colours of the image (i've done this many times and with the right image it can look nice imho) so, I bumped the saturation on the red channel whilst reducing the luminance of the red to give it depth.

    Oh yeah, some post crop vignetting applied also.

    Think that was it.

    Yeah, I agree with above. It's a striking image and her expression really suits the PP. Not to mention she is stunning looking. :)

    Strikes me as the kind of photo that would make a fortune as a stock image of some kind.
