A campaign is being launched for the return to Ireland of Countess Markievicz's 1916 banner taken from her home when it was "ransacked by the 3rd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel McCammond". The house was looted during her imprisonment in Kilmainham Jail. The banner is now in the British Imperial War museum in London. Looting and pillage was a pastime of the Imperial powers. The Brits were especially good at it.

Markievicz's banner may not be on the same level as the plundering by Lord Elgin who stole 2,500 year old marble sculptures from Greece [the Brits have still to return those] but it is a national treasure nevertheless.

Let's hope that this gets returned. I'm not holding my breath.
