Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone got any good tips for quick and easy rust removal on chrome and the nuts and bolts on an old bike?

I'm not sure sandpaper on chrome no matter how fine is a good idea, it's great for stainless steel. If you use steel wool make sure it's the finest you can get your hands on. IMHO aluminum kitchen foil is your best bet, I've just restored an old chrome bmx frame using it, it was surprisingly good. Then again it depends on how bad the rust is, but if use anything too abrasive you can leave sctaches and remove it's protemctive coating leaving it more open to rust later on.

Rusty nuts and bolts: I'm going to try the vinegar method on mine. Just drop them in a sealed container with vinegar, give it a shake and leave overnight and they should come out new.

WIll you let us know how the bolts come out? would be interested to see how it works. Has anyone heard of people using coke to remove rust in the same way harry is talking about using vinegar

It's been tested on Mythbusters and they showed it didn't work AFAIK.

Sorry, yeah I'll report back. Should be doing it tonight so will communicate results in morning. Americans seem to have different vinegar potencies so hopefully Chef is strong enough.

Threw washers and nuts into container last night, gave them a shake and checked this quickly morning before running out to work. Rust was already lose in the liquid and more came off with a quick rub, so another night and hopefully a go with a toothbrush will clear it all.
