Can't wait for this title. GTA goes west. Rockstar San Diego makes this title using the Rockstar Animated Game Engine (RAGE) a slightly modified version of GTA IV's physics. Using Euphoria too.

Map is in 3 sections. Each section is about bigger than size of Liberty City from GTA IV. Total size is twice the size of San Andreas.

There's llots of side missions including animal hunting, bounty hunting, drinking etc.

I'm a big fan of Rockstar titles, such as GTA and The Warriors so can't wait. This is gonna be EPIC. I'm sure it will get 10/10 ratings or close.

    Watch in HD!

    That looks great.
They need to sort out the "on foot" controls though. I turned on GTA IV last nite (for the first time in months) and it was so clunky compared to the controls of games like Uncharted.

If they can fix that then I'm all over this game on release day.

That looks very good, if they expand on what activision did with gun we could have a very good title on our hands, ha gun was one of the first games i played on the 360 loved it so i did

Looking forward to this one, I wanted GTA IV to be San Andreas sized and was let down so hearing it's twice the size of that is pretty fantastic. Graphics look amazing, love the setting too. I really hope they can make it intereesting though, because the screenshots make it look a bit empty

Hmm, i'm not sure i like the fact that its so big. I just hope its not a load of empty space. San Andreas was way too big, and it took ages to get anywhere in a fast car, nevermind a horse. Still really looking forward to this though.

GTA mixed with Call of Juarez/Gun? Yes please :P

Class vid, definitely interested in this!

Highlights - Stabbing between fingers game, hillarious! Horse Jacking 3:03. Actually capturing bounties!!!

Loved Gun, hated Call of Juarez.

Agree with Jeebus, I tried playing GTA 4 the other day and turned it off after 10 minutes becuase of onfoot controls, and then I though it would be better if I got into a car. Oh how wrong I was. Uncharted and Ass Creed 2 spoiled me with movement.

Yeah, GTA IV is hard to get used to the on foot controls but I play it so much and it's a game I keep going back to that I'm so used to it. So much so that I use it as a platform to base and judge other games off it in a way.

As regards to the map size and content. Well there's plenty to do. You can hunt over 40 deifferent animals and skin some of them and sell the fur. You can go down the root of being a bad guy or a good guy as it says in the video. You can get trains to different destinations but the thing I loved about San Andreas was finding a part of the map that blows you away. It may have a secret or easter egg there and you've been playing the game for a year yet you still find new ****. I reckon RDR will be like this. Plus there's treasure hunts and I sure the treasures will be stashed in geographical points of interest, like some of the pigeons (flying rats) in GTA.
The massive open-world, however, is more than just pretty scenery on an epic scale. Players will have the opportunity to interact with this world in a large number of ways. They can kill animals, skin them and sell their furs in the towns dotted about the map. They can choose to track down criminals on wanted posters and collect the bounties by bringing them in. They can help local authorities flush gangs of desperados out of forts. They can stop in town for a quick game of cards or Finger Five Fillet. They can even ride shotgun on a stagecoach. We were allowed to ride through the Frontier map for over an hour, and came away convinced that we'd barely scratched the surface of what was on offer. The massive world of the old West exists to be explored and players are likely to get sidetracked by the massive array of non-story activities they can take part in.
Read this excerpt from a preview. ****ing deadly. Love this random ****
    ...
Rockstar gave us the chance to go out exploring and find some procedural events for ourselves during the hands on.
What resulted gave us even more faith in the side-missions, and we already thought they were pretty awesome. Visual cues such as smoke from a campfire can reveal the location of these events, and at the end of one of these smoke trails we found a man stoking the fire and what appeared to be a human body wrapped in linen beside him. Naturally, our Spidey sense began to tingle.

A closer inspection revealed human remains around the campfire as it became increasingly apparent that, yes, it was a human body wrapped in linen, and yes, this guy had to be one twisted sicko. We promptly ended the man's life and released his prisoner (an old lady no less), with this particular occurrence serving to exemplify the dark and twisted underworld of Redemption's sprawling open-world.

Well I know what I am doing this April, its the promise of wide open spaces that has me hooked. That was my favourite part of San Andreas just cruising around listening to country music on K-Dust or some Depeche Mode. Will probably crank up some Ennio Morricone and go shoot some rabbits for hours on end :)

Yeah its desperate its not going to make an appearance on PC. With a game world that big, and being a R* title, i think we know what we're in for on consoles. Fuzzy visuals, frame rate issues, popup and general pukeyness. It would have been so nice to play this game on bleeding edge hardware with a high resolution. Its a rental for me anyway. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,937 ✭✭✭rizzla

I like how open it is. I just hope it doesnt have stupid missions, some guy down on his luck "I can't hunt rabbits like I used to and if I don't get some by tonight I'll be a dead man beacuse some guy wants my rabbits." You, "I'll help you." Cue a needless mission were you have to hunt rabbits.

Actually mission variety in this game will concern me, especially the story missions. Obviously there will be an escort the station carriage mission that gets attacked by bandits.

It's not out on PC because they can't make the money off it they would on a console. Pirating etc etc. It's too difficult for them to put in a decent anti pirating mechanism and they would have to invest into it too much, why make a game for the PC when they can charge 70 euro a game on Xbox or playstation?

I can't believe they are wasting such a potentially beautiful game on consoles. What a joke.

Rockstar forget where that "red dead" targeting system came from, they didn't even have the decency to fcuking change any aspect of it. Just ripped it straight from COJ.

Pretty sure that comes from Red Dead Revolver, the Xbox game from 2004.

70 euro? Maybe for a collectors edition or something but that is far from a regular price of a game for 360 anyway. It'll be in the region of €50, probably less depending where you buy it. (cant speak for playstation 3 as I wouldnt know but I think the pricing is similar)

Potentially beautiful? People are already saying that the visuals are beautiful. The game is what it is, there wouldnt be a massive leap graphically from the 360 version to a PC version (for a multiplatform game) to warrant saying the game could be "potentially beautiful". Depending on the hardware of the PC, you might be able to max out the settings (so nice textures, higher res...) but that's hardly the difference between potentially beautiful and beautiful. It's the difference between sharp and sharper.

If it was built from the ground up for PC then yes we might see something visually comparable to the likes of Crysis which as we all know, with the right hardware, blows away anything the consoles have to offer...but it wasnt and was never going to be.

Yeah that's an innovation from a console game called "Red Dead Reolver", the prequel to this game

I'm liking the look of this. It does like quite GTA like in it's shoot outs and stuff. I'm hoping you don't have to take friends for dinner and get bogged down with too much "Real World" stuff in this one. I've always found that to be the weakest and most gruelling aspect of Rock* games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

Ah man, I never noticed this wasn't coming out for PC I've been looking forward to it for ages. I suppose they'll do the usual of releasing it a year later on PC.

Sounds like this will follow The Saboteur and win this year's award for comedy Irish accent!

"I was just coming to see ya when the drink got the better 'a me":)

I am cautiously optimistic about this. Until GTA IV I thought Rockstar could do no wrong but I was very disappointed in that as they seemed to take the fun out of it.

But if they go back to any of the previous GTA's or The Warriors and keep the open world whilst having a bit of a laugh at the whole setting and allowing you to do cool things then this could be epic. I loved cruising between the cities in San Andreas so I am fine with the size.

I'll wait for some reviews both here and on gaming sites and pick it up if it seems fun.

I assumed there would, most games do as did GTA, the stories permit a lot of modes, this game could be great fun online :)

I thought GTAIV was going to be brilliant, turned out to be meh. I'll wait a couple of months before picking this up, just to be sure that it actually is good and can hold my attention for more than half of the campaign.
