It's all down to cost. Options as I see it:

    1. The AA aka locksmith (call out fees - circa €150)
    2. Smash small window (replacement fees - circa €100)
    3. Call a friend to bring you the spare? (beer fees / slagging - €priceless)

Congrats on the baby when he/she arrives :)

Actually do you have breakdown cover on your insurance? You could try that if you do?

    Good luck with the baby.

Don't smash the smallest window. They don't stock them so it's more expensive than a larger window.

We had to do this for someone recently and rang the glass replacement crew first to check what window they had in stock first before smashing one. Meant the driver could go straight to the glass place once he had the key back.

Remember also that if the car is deadlocked you'll have to get in to boot by taking the back seats down as the car won't open without the key.

Before you smash a window make sure you will be able to access the boot from within the car. Personally I would get a locksmith if not coverd for breakdown assist.

if the deadlocks are not activated, you can get a coat hanger,
force it between door frame and roof, slide it down and pull the handle

not much effort is needed as the electric motors will do all the work.....

have done it many a times on rental cars customers locked keys in.....
works well as long as deadlocks not on...

ok whats deadlocks. Have opened older cars with the coat hanger but just presumed it would not work on new cars

Deadlock is when you lock the car with one key press, then lock again with another key press. Means the car can only be opened with a key and not by smashing the window and using the interior handle.

The missus locked her keys in before and it ended up cheaper to call out a locksmith.
They had it open in minutes and only cost 50 quid.

    might be worth a call

ok turns ok deadlocks on. So hanger trick did not work nor could a locksmith open it. Smashed window very suprised how difficult that was. 2 of us could not smash back passenger window or small window. Had to smash front passenger which only gave on 5th attempt! We were using that thing for taking nuts off wheels, brain not working and to top it off her goodself wont be induced till tomorrow!
