Hi theres a place in Burnfoot on the way to Derry called Canvas Art Print Tel: 074 93 31929, its just down beside the school. Ive never used them so i dunno what their quality is like but could be worth a look as thats what they specialise in

If you're not happy with what's available locally, why not order online, I always find photobox.co.uk very good.

Or Snappy Snaps on Carlisle Road in Derry do a lot of canvas printing.

I had totally forgot about this thread, oops :o

I'm still toying with a few different things (i think North West Art had replied the last time i looked here but when i went to repy it had vanished) The photos i have are landscape photos i want one decent sized one for brace wall then 3 or 4 other smaller ones, they dont need to be on canvas but i do think id prefear to have the bigger one on canvas,. i totally forgot about the crowd in burnfoot, i'll give them a buzz tomorrow, i think my maine problem is i don't really know exactly what i want (i know the photos i want but not the type of print i want done) which doesn't help, lol.

this is the big one i want took down near kindrum lake a while back....

I think Snappy Prints in Derry is closed.

Jessops, in the Foyleside SC do canvas prints.

AFAIK, Magees Chemist can do them, and so can the Ballyraine Pharmacy on the Ramelton Road. Don't know what the quality is like, but no harm in you popping in for a look. :)

I use the Ballyraine Pharmacy for normal 6x4 prints, as the quality is decent, resonably priced at 15c each for 1hr express service, and a whole lot easier to get to than Magees!

Just thought of something else that might suit you.
There's a sign company, up the Mountain Top, that has a huge digital printer. I've seen some of the stuff printed on this, and it's fantastic!

Why not price them up for a four foot print, already mounted onto some smooth plastic stuff that they have, and it'll be ready to hang!

Remember, you're going to have to supply them with the best quality image that you have. A standard 4 mega pixel image will print grand upto A4, maybe A3, so the bigger the print, the bigger the starting image will need to be. Otherwise your image will start to "pixelate" (sp?).

yes, I posted a reply which I deleted as it looked a bit high filuted when I re read it :). Mrmac's idea sounds like a good one, you could ask the sign company do they print onto canvas also. You could also give it a go yourself...
I did something like this myself last year, using just my inkjet printer and a book of canvas sheets (which you used to be able to get in Lidl)... these sheets are for oil sketching and they come in sketch book form of up to 20 sheets.
The photos I printed were'nt very big, but they did turn out well. I think part of the reason is that because the canvas has a grain or texture, the sharpness would be lesser than that of in image printed on normal photo paper.
The good thing is that the canvas sheets are fairly rigid, and go through the printer almost the same as thick paper. Just make sure you have plenty of ink in the cartridges (I refill my own), and that the printing nozzles are clean. Also, trim the canvas to A4 width, as I think that this is the max standard size that most home printers will accept.
Try one on High quality setting on photo paper first, then fiddle with the image saturation until you get the colour balance you desire . I use a program called Irfran View, another good one is the Gimp, which is like Photoshop, except its free.
The canvas sheets are pre primed so they have a slightly glossed surface, and non porous, so the ink wouldn't be absorbed the same as if you were to print onto canvas cloth. I think you could pick them up in any art supply shop.
I did some large scale photo prints, roughly A3 size, onto matt photo paper, but I had to get a printing company to do the printing for me. They turned out really well.

the first video clip here shows what I was talking about, I would reconsider using the stretcher though, might look better if the canvas was spray mounted onto thin panel, then framed with glass over it.

    best of luck with it

ps. I recognise Fanad Lighthouse and the Atlantic Drive, Im stuck on the first one, is it near Kerrykeel?
