Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was at party tonight and I wasn't planning on drinking so I took the car.
When I was leaving around an hour ago, there was a Garda at my car.

I had pulled up outside the house and parked on the path, didn't even see that there was a cycle lane on the path.

He's done me for blocking said cycle lane- 60e fine!

Do cycle lanes have operating times like bus lanes?
And in fairness, at 4am there's not going to be much traffic let alone cyclists!!

Some do (typically 0700-1900), some don't (24 hour). Any way, what were you doing parked on the footpath?

Victor does this also depend on whether or not there is a broken line at the cycle lane? If the bicycle lane had a broken white line, is it still ok to park on it providing there are no double yellow lines, no continuous white line in the middle of a single lane each way road etc?

Time is always* dictated by a sign on a pole.

    * I can't think of any scenario when it isn't.

IIRC there is a bigger fine for parking on the footpath than parking on double yellow lines, he could have done you for this if there was no cycle lane too.

    (c) a footway, whether the vehicle is so parked wholly or partly.

    S.I. No. 274/1998:

ROAD TRAFFIC (TRAFFIC AND PARKING) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1998

covers off the cycling lane offence:

    (5) A prohibition on the parking of a vehicle imposed by article 36 (2) (m)

So basically you were in the wrong regardless of a cycle lane existing, don't see how you can get out of this one.

I bet you are one of those people who give out about cyclists not using the cycle lanes where provided...

If there was a broken white line to the right hand side of the lane then you could park in it for up to 30 minutes if you are loading or unloading.

Nope I dont give out about them not using cycle lanes, I give out when they don't obey traffic lights :D

The footpath I parked on is huge, so people would still have space to walk and what not, plus parking is ages away from the house.

Ah well, i'll just grin and bear it.

    Thanks :D
