Lumpy lawn after horse, what to do?

Hi all, Recently moved into a house and the garden is in bits because there were horses in there previously. Just wondering what to do? am thinking of getting a pitch fork to even out the lumps and the roll it with a garden roller. any other suggestions?? have limited funds too:( thanks!
