Now I know there have been a lot of rumours coming out since the iPhone began to have a proper games library but this looks like it might have some truth to it. They aren't planning a phone per se but according to the Wall Street Journal...
Citing “people familiar with the matter”, the report goes on to claim that the company is also working on a new iPad like device that “blurs the distinctions among a netbook, an e-reader and a PlayStation Portable.”

So it sounds like they are attempting to knock out the iPad/iPhone with some super smartphone. Sounds interesting.

There have been rumours regarding a PSP phone for years now; God knows Sony would be able to make an amazing device with great mobile phone and gaming features, considering their joint relationship with Ericsson and track record with the PSP.

What I find a shame is when companies like Sony wait until there's an already successful device before releasing something that was clearly obvious to everyone else and would no doubt be a success. It's not as if they don't put a load of money into niche products that never really get off the ground, e.g. Aibo, Mylo, Rolo etc.

If they make a PSP phone and market it as well as how Apple marketed the iPhone/iPad then they may be able to get back some market share.

Even if they market it half as well, they'll be on to a winner.

can't see it being a phone. Just another slate computer with a 3G connection. How well it handles as a gaming console will be the key to it's success cause other then that it is coming very late to what is going to be a very over crowded market
