Briggs and Stratton Engine

    Hi ,
Iv just bought an old generator with a 3HP 4-Cycle Briggs and Stratton engine. Before i try to get it working, can anyone please tell me, is it pure petrol it takes, or do you add some oil to the pertrol? If so , Would 2 stroke oil do?

Also, for anyone that might have one, there is a knob (shiney and round turn-wheel like) , close to the air breather , with a long bar at the end of it, , leading down to like a trottle. The knob has a spring on it, and it can be released .
Does anyone know what this is for, and what way its suppose to be when starting?

    thanks,

    Jo

I would say its a Quattro engine. Dont add 2 stroke engine oil to the petrol.

Get the engine number off the front of the engine it should be just above the muffler. The engine number should be 6 digits, then 4 digits then 2 digits. You can enter these on the B&S website and it will let you download the instruction manual for that engine.

If you have any more hassle just post a few pics up here.

If there is a dipstick and filler cap for oil it's 4 stroke i.e. don't add oil to petrol
