Not a snowballs chance for next season I'm afraid (See here). This is mainly due to the way the ranking system uses your results from the past two seasons and Ken had an abysmal season last year but has made up for it this season with some good results, so he will be well placed to make a top 16 return for the 2011/2012 season providing he has another decent season next time out.

If he beats Mark Selby in Sheffield he should keep him safe in the top 32, so he will only have to play one qualifier to get through to the main events and that was surely his main aim this year.

Welcome to the forum BTW. :)

Don't watch much snooker but always watch this tournament. Will be following my usuals: Higgins, Doherty and O'Brien. Good to have the Irish lads back in it although both have very tough first round matches.

Some crackers there in the first round as well as the Selby v Doherty one:
    O'Sullivan v Wenbo
    Maguire v Lee

    Love this time of year!

A long break indeed, but that's always been the case with the defending champion, they open the tournament, finish their match on the first night and have a few days off. That's the perks of being world champion I suppose!

The Snooker World Championship is really hotting up. After a second round featuring two epic snooker battles, Steve 'interesting' Davis and Neil Robertson go head to head tomorrow in the first quarter final. Also on for a 10 am start tomorrow are dark horse for the tournament Mark Allen and former champion Graham Dott.

Then in the afternoon session Ali Carter, (my own outside bet for the tournament) will take on either Ding Junhui or Shaun Murphy who was victorious in Sheffield in 2005. It looks like Ronnie will play Mark Selby who is 11-5 up against Hendry.

    Tournament Odds Paddypower
    Ronnie O'Sullivan 7/4
    Mark Allen 15/2
    Graeme Dott 14/1
    Mark Selby 9/2
    Shaun Murphy 10/1
    Steve Davis 40/1
    Neil Robertson 5/1
    Ali Carter 12/1
    Stephen Hendry 500/1
    Ding Junhui6/1

mark allen looking to be playing well
    4-0 up against dott
does anybody think he could be a genuine contender for the title?

He is in with a great shout. If and when he gets past dott, he's got a semi against O'sullivan (who he knocked out last year) or Selby, who seems to thrive in the longer match format. I think he'd prefer to play ronnie and his half of the draw is by far the stronger. If he did make the final i don't think he'd fear Robertson, Carter, Murphy or Davis in a final. I think it's reflected in his price which is currently 11/2 with most bookies.
