Para, that was pretty great, and the penalty could win the match
If he kicks it before the clock runs out :D
He uses up all the time usually

Not a fan of Parra but that was a serious 2 minutes of rugby from him. Fair play.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

That is the utter height of stupidity. Shag off and take a yellow for that.

    Gorgodze is a penalty machine.

Couldn't have hit your drop goal like that against us, could you?

That advantage is mad, lot of ground made, should have been over.

Dewi Morris, is incredibly annoying, zero insight offered.

How do Clermont always fine themselves in these positions?

    Well that was rather good.

Fair play to Clermont for holding on, thought Toulon would sneak it.
That was some long advantage from Poite at the end. Would have been a shame if that had decided the game.

Two great domestic finals....... pro12 not so much :P

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

That was the best domestic final of the season, by a distance. Fantastic match and as full blooded a game as you'll see.

Clermont have an unreal ability to try and f*ck things up for themselves. Collar tackle which gave Toulon a way back into the game and then Chouly taking a man out off the ball in the dying minutes when it looks done and dusted.

Thought it was a terrible kick to touch at the end. Needs to get it to the 5m line but the line out was twice that from the try line. If Toulon had been on the 5m line, I think they'd have eked it out with pick and go rugby.

I don't think Toulon will be letting anyone ever go on a Lions tour again. Leigh Halfpenny plays and, at the very least, Toulon are 3 points down when they get those penalties in the 22 to tie the game late on and aren't forced to go for a 7 pointer.

Main thing though....cracking game of rugby. So long 2016/17 season, you've been a good one.

Looking at the Clermont try again, if Basteraud actually gave a f*ck and chased back he could have made a tackle. Barely broke into a jog "chasing"

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭vetinari

One thing I noticed in the game was that a few Toulon players led with the arm a fair bit when taking a tackle.
Are they any rules around that? A few of their bigger guys pretty much smashed an arm into the tackler on multiple occasions.

Based on the entire season. Attacking, creative and entertaining rugby won it. Destructive and violent rugby lost. Mid to long term management won. Impulsive and messy one lost. A bit reductive admittedly but not that far off from reality. And I'm very happy about it ;).

Parra was immense. 100% kicking and made 2 absolutely vital turnovers in the dying min of the game. I found Zirakashvili huge too. He notably made quite a number of runs to bring support upfront. Credit to the Clermont youngsters too. Damian Penaud was very good, both in attack and defense. Iturria & Cancoriet too. They managed to counter Toulon on their strongest point, "la conquête" (I can never remember how you say this in English).

Parra was immense, he should not be allowed turnover any ball against Toulon

Ashton with two tries on his debut for Toulon.
Montpellier with a bagful of scores and Cruden-Pienaar looking comfortable already.

    Great news all round.

I watched some of the Bordeaux v Clermont match. Clermont looked to be cruising but Bordeaux then put up a great fight to get the win. As always, the Bordeaux crowd were great.

I feel they often just need one or two intelligent signings to really challenge. Who did they bring in this year?

    Clermont signed Laidlaw

    I meant Bordeaux!
They've signed a ****ton of D2 players and no big names. Interested to see if any make the step up.

Racing were away from home.....this is the Top 14, where away wins are rare enough. And they managed to pick up the LBP.

They were 2/5 favourites it's a game they should have been winning.

Tuitavake was sent off in the first half for a dangerous tackle.

I know I'm getting old but I'm not old enough that players I remember from when I was younger now have sons playing. ;)

Well unless you started watching rugby very recently, there are a few examples. For instance Regan King who only retired a year ago has a son playing for the Scarlets. Any Farrell who is only a year older than Cullen has a son who was arguably the best player in the Northern hemisphere pre lions tour.

Nope, my first international in Lansdowne would have been 30 years ago on a schoolboy ticket that cost about £2.50.

Clermont no8 has just commited the howler of the season. Drops the ball over the line with no one within 5 yards of him.
