Oh god, where to start?! There are so many.

I'll start off with the two obvious ones - Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

Are the medal of honour series good? Saw that today for 8.99
    Saw Outrun 2006 for 4.99

    These worth picking up?

I can't really comment on the Medal of Honour games. I played them so much that I really cant stand them any more in any form. Total over saturation.

If you haven't played one you may enjoy it. Although they more than likely have dated a lot.

Outrun at 4.99? I'd buy that.

My local one did for a while but then sold them all off for a few euro each. So I wouldn't imagine many have them left.

The shops that do have ps2 games left are stocked with mostly rubbish :( I've given up going through the shelves in Gamestops. I think that little golden moment where you could pick up good ps2 games for nothing has come to an end unfortunately. I suppose it all depends on which store you go to.

Game in Blanch and the one on Dawson st. are both good if you can get to them. 4 for €15 and I recently saw Okami, Timesplitters 3, Disgaea (bought a copy myself) Black, The Warriors, Devil may Cry, R Type Final, Burnout 3, freedom fighters, metal gear 2, ssx, RE4 and a few other good uns.

    Essential PS2 games for me:

    Metal Gear Solid 2/3
    GTA San Andreas
    Burnout 3
    Shadow of the Colossus
    Okami
    Resident Evil 4

There's loads more but I can't think of them right now

The only medal of honour on the PS2 worth playing is Frontline and imo it's dated badly and crap now.

    As for must have games:

Gradius V (it really is awesome)
    Persona 3 FES
    Persona 4
Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2
    Shin Megami Tensei Lucifiers Call
    Shadow of the Colossus
    Ico
Zone of the Enders 2: 2nd Runner
    Metal Gear Solid 3
    Final Fantasy X
    Grandia 2
God of War 1 and 2
    Devil May Cry 3
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
    Beyond Good and Evil
    Okami
    Canis Canem Edit
    Suikoden V
    Dragon Quest VIII
    We Love Katamari
    Contra: Shattered Soldier
    Silent Hill 2
    Odin Sphere
    Tomb Raider Anniversary
    The Warriors
    Psychonauts
    Yakuza 1 and 2
    Valkyrie Profile 2
    Project Zero 1,2 and 3
    Gitaroo Man
    Ring of Red
    GrimGrimoire
    Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter

    That should keep you lit.

Resident Evil 4 is great but it's so much better on the Gamecube and Wii.

Gamestop in Rathmines where I picked up my PS2 the other day had 3 shelves full of boring sports games. Bloody hell like...
Would not be caught dead playing a sports game! Rather take my chances leprechaun spotting.

I'm not working 2moro so I intend to get a few half decent games and visit a few charity shops and see if I can't find a right Diamond of a console aswell:D ...Being feeling very lucky since yesturday!

    So true mate...
As for games usually keep away from ones that has a lot of copies on shelves and be on the lookout for rare ones like any of the Resident Evil or Onimusha, Silent Hill series but hell its up to you man depends on your taste really.

Lots of excellent games listed so far; the "must haves" being: Okami, God of War, Ico and Shadow of The Colossus.

Here are some other gems that haven't been mentioned yet:

    Sly Raccoon 1, 2, 3
    Spartan: Total Warrior
    S.O.S.: The Final Escape
    War of The Monsters

I heard the Sly Racoon games are really good, must hunt them down.

Chartbusters in Balinteer, I picked it up earlier. They have a few other good ps2 games there should anyone want to run down and pick them up. Mostly beat em ups. Going out again later on to a few other chartbusters local to me for a look around.

Don't have a massive amount of PS2 games, but one of my favourites is Bombastic. For an arcade racer, I really like Tokyo Road Race (Battle Gear 2) - cheap but fun.

Any compilation disks worth looking out for? I have the 3 Midway collections, one of the Taito Legends (2, IIRC) and the Sega Classics. Good stuff on all of them, but any others worth getting? I see there were 2 Capcom collections. What else is there? Any Konami collections?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,616 ✭✭✭97i9y3941

    -Shadow of rome
    -Mortal kombat armageddon
    -Final fantasy 12
    -Midway arcade treasures 1-3
    -Return to castle wolfeinstein
-metal gear solid sons of liberty
    -Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
    -Gran turismo 3

    WRONG!

Also FFXII is a love it or hate it game. It's nothing like the rest of he series but the fact that you can get it for peanuts brand new means it's worth a punt.

Augmersons list covered most of my faves,
but I'd like to add the following few to the list,

    Fantavision
    Flipnic
    Secret Weapons Over Normandy
    Haven: Call of the king

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,599 ✭✭✭James Howlett

all the obvious stuff has been mentioned but I would also add Timesplitters II, its a great game. On the Medal of Honour series I really liked Frontline but not the others ones, not at all.

    Might as well throw +1 to;
    Resident Evil 4
    Shadow of the Colossus

I'd actually say don't pick up Freakout because it's utter ****e.

Forgot to add that Transformers (not the movie licenses, the original) is actually an excellent game on the PS2.

Amplitude and Frequency, to see what rhythm action games were before they bolted a plastic guitar to it.

Gran Turismo 4 and WRC Evolution are both great for obvious reasons, I never got into the Codemasters style of racing games.

    .

A game where you use a demonic scarf to pinch and stretch boobies. What's not to like? You must have teh gay.

No I agree, it's not very good at all. Just odd. I was quite shocked when I heard it was made by Treasure.

I can't even figure out how I am supposed to play Freak Out. :/

+1 Timesplitters agus Gran Tourismo 4.

Retro compilations are worth a look too.

    Taito Legends 2
    Sonic Gems
    Sega Classics Collection
    Sonic Mega Collection Plus
    Sega Mega Drive Collection

All thre retro compilations are worth getting certainly, even though some purists, and you know who you are, reckon the comversions aren't always top notch.
Certainly both Taitio collections, the Midway compilations, the Atari 2600 collection and the various Sega and Sonic packages are all well worth the money.

Also, if you can find it, there are two must have compilations out there,
one is the Silent Hill collection that combines SH2/3/4 in one scary box, you will have to buy Silent Hill itself, released on the PS, seperately like I had too :(
two is the Prince of Persia Trilogy, with Sands of Time, Warrior Within and Two Thrones all in one, I think I picked my copy up for a fiver somewhere!

Not having much luck finding any of these great games, same old sh!te sports games no matter where I go. If I see NHL hocky or Fifa football games again I'll drown myself, shelves are full of them. Mother of God!

Came across GTA III for a tenner though but I thought a tenner was too much for it. I should get it for a fiver somewhere else.

Game on Dawson Street in Dublin still have a okish selection and it isn't all sports games either. I've heard Gamestop out in Santry is the holy grail, that's Gamestop's HQ and is probably well stocked with everything.

Not anymore, was in there last week. PS2 section reduced to about 2 shelves and filled with nothing really interesting at all. Plenty of LMA manager and outdated PES and Fifas if youlike them. Might be some gems hidden there but nothing popped out at me.

Had a look through some of the ps2 games my mam picked up for me in that recycling centre. Second Sight seemed really interesting for 5 or 10 minutes. Then the oul repetition/bordom set in. :(

So I turned that off and put my Megadrive on instead. Revenge of Shinobi. Died twice on the waterfall level.

All consoles were switched off and I left the room in a huff.

Nope, Santry is most definitely not GS's HQ.
They have a head office and warehouse alright but it's no where near Santry.
They don't really have a main store anymore, the closest to a flagship store is the one in the Stephens Green centre.
The shop in Santry is a long way from it's prime to be honest, the stores I frequent are the likes on Clare Hall and Donamede, not to mention the Swords Pavilion.

If you go to the more "provincial" stores you may have better luck in finding PS2 stock.

I had a look in Game in the Ilac Centre and they seemed to have some interesting PS2 games, as does the aforementioned Clare Hall store.

Used to happen to me a lot especially when games were harder. I'd start up probotector trying to beat it and losing a life early in the first level. the Megadrive wouldn't be touched for the rest of the day :)

Scandalous! Gamestop used to charge about 4 quid for GTA 3 secondhand and at some point in the last 6months to a year they decided it was "worth" a tener! Bloody bizarre. I got it for a fiver ina charity shop. I regreted trading it in years ago. Same with my Smackdown 3 Just Bring It especially as that had the old WWF logo.

I saw said WWF game in Gamestop for €5... a few games behind it I found the exact same said game for .99c!!!

Henry St is their main branch is it not? I used to think it was the Liffey St branch as I thought Gamestop was just grown out of Gamesworld that used to be there. I found Sniper Elite for about 6/7quid in that Liffey St shop on PS2 last year. Some worker bloke was digging through some old PS2 stock in the back.

I'd say the heyday of PS2 second hand games is well and truly over now. Now shall begin the depression setting is that is people either binning stuff or leaving it in an attic! Soon enough Gamestop et al will stop trading PS2 games so it'll all be lost forver.

It doesn't help us that all the game shops in Ireland have always and still do offer pathetic paltry amounts on trade ins.

Problem with Adverts is there's people either buying up games to sell them on or there's some people that are convinced their PS2 phat launch with a controller, memory card a dozen games (the usuals!) is absolutely worth at least €150!

We're a nation of scopions and foxes....

The original Gamestop store was the on Abbey St, in the back of Chapters, it was under where the tattoo place is, just a counter with a few shelves of Snes and Megadrive games.
Back then it was called Gamesworld of course!
Then they opened the Liffey St shop and put their offices in the basement beneath, nefore moving the offices upstairs over the shop, on the 2nd floor.
The space beneath was then used as storage, although the Official Playstation Magazine Ireland was based there for a time as well.
But quickly they expanded, they opened a series of shops before being bought by Gamestop, and the rest is history.

On a brighter note, they are talking about a return to renting games, which would be cool, given the amount of folk that finish the likes of Bioshock in a couple of hours.

There is a lot of people trying to sell on their PS2's right now, alot of people being very unrealistic about what they can get for them. I've seen prices on adverts that were closer to the actual retail price 4 years back when the PS2 still had a leg to stand on.

Yeah I don't get it at all! Trying to sell PS2 phat with a few games for a hundred euro?! What planet are these people on! The gas thing is they'll refuse any genuine offers and take offense and then not sell the thing and eventually it'll either get thrown out or be left gathering dust. As long as you're getting more than what a game shop will offer then people should be jumping at the chance!

Is this how so many other consoles and games ended up lying in people's attics? They couldn't sell them on for near what they paid for them and weren't getting good trade in so thought "f-ck it, it can stay in the attic"
