For a beginner I'd suggest using something like Virtual DJ & move on to something a bit complex once you start getting the hang of the basics.

Mixx is a great, free programme to find yer feet on and see if you actually ENJOY mixing. There's a lot more work in it than it seems. Most are put off after a few clashing basslines. Don't spend any unnecessary cash until you figure that out. Then look into Traktor and some decent sound kit.

First: Download a free trial of some of the software and play around with it. Ok mxcing with a mouse isn't the best but it will still be fun to play around with.
Then if you still like it find a cheap second hand controller so you can mix properly. My first was a Hercules DJ Console (MK1), piece of crap but did the job at the time and will be grand to mess on and have some fun with.
Then if you are still into it and want to do it properly, start saving and buy something decent that will last you. Check the "What controller should I buy" thread

Download a traktor crack and away you go. Not much to it but it does help if you've mixed on decks before.

immmmmmmmmmmm if your stuck for cash it would be the cheaper option, but I would say when you do have cash get yourself a mixer and a set of cdjs even second hand, just to get the feel for it, its easy to cue a tracks on Traktor and hit the sync button once they are in the same bpm range, but thats just my opinion:)
