    Does anyone know the situation on travelling to the UK without a passport? Has it gotten more strict recently?

    As far as the law is concerned, all you need is photo ID. Airlines have their own rules. Check with your airline to be certain.

    Thanks for the help guys. a friend of mine told me that for ryanair you must have a passport but aer lingus will accept photo ID.

    As far as the law is concerned you don't need any ID at all.

    The method you use to cross the border changes what ID you may need to take with you though.

    Just to tell you don't fly Ryanair, as they now only accept passports as ID even on domestic routes (and it's strictly enforced). Book with Aer Lingus, BMI or CityJet.
