I need help reading this. It's the 1901 census for Edward C Dean, 34, male. What I need help with is the text in the 6th box, the guy's profession.

    Any ideas ?

    Something Proprieter obviously.

I can't tell if the word "Stable" is supposed to be in the sixth or seventh column.

"Stable Proprieter", sounds like a 19th-century profession alright.

Looks like cab proprietor (with a stable!) to me. :)

Good idea but it's the UK 1901 and the 1911 costs me €€€ :)

if he's Edward C Dean from Sidmouth, Devon then on the 1891 census he's down as a Carriage Proprietor.

    Shame he wasn't a builder...then he'd be my man :)

pop some more details across and I'll take a look on Ancestry for him. Date of birth, wife, location etc... if you have any of it.
