Louder is a really nice beer.

It's my second bottle of Louder and I think it's a fantastic effort at an American style Barley Wine.

Went perfectly with my 28 day dry aged Striploin for dinner!

Currently sipping the O'Hara's for "desert".
    It's pretty fecking good.

Not as good as the barrel aged Celebration by Porter house last year, but not far off it, a lot better than Kindred Spirit and about level with the Fran Well Jameson. Lovely bitter chocolate and coffee notes and then the wood and whiskey just creep in beautifully. Top notch stuff.

I have a bottle each of the O'Hara's Barrel Aged Stout and the Franciscan Well Jameson Stout, but I want to save them for special occasions. The temptation to pop them open is fierce though!

Same here. My FW is last year's though and I hear the new one is a nicer batch, so I might swap that out for a new one soon :). I'm saving a war chest of good stuff for Christmas. Or trying at least.

Where do you buy yours? I had to make an order from Drinkstore for mine last week. Would be handy if I could pick them up elsewhere.

The Franciscan Well JS? I haven't picked up the new one yet. Got the O'Hara's in O'Briens in Malahide and another one in McHughe's Artane, where I also picked up the older FW Jameson Stout, last December.

I really do think that the Barrel Aged Celebration was the best Irish barrel aged beer I've had. I wish I could find one knocking about.

Is there a re-launch of Macardles on Draught? The Brazen Head have had it on tap for a couple of weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,698 ✭✭✭ciaran76

Harvest Moon Pigs Ass Porter : nice sweet aroma when handed the pint.
Tasted a little sweet with nice malty tones followed by a coffee taste.
Not too carbonated and tasted quite nice.
Wasn't heavy at all and maybe a little too watery.

Porterhouse An Brain Blasta, I think I've found my go to beer, lovely.

News to me if they are. There was a very slight push on it into a few Offie's last year but it was a weak effort all told. It's a beer that I always feel that Diageo just want to get rid off it but can't for whatever reason.

A rare night out in the Black Sheep tonight so have started off with a Voyager IPA. My taste buds must have been destroyed when I had it at the beer festival because it tastes very different now!
Might move on to something else next! Perhaps an Amberella....

Amberella is a beast of a beer, you might as well switch onto Corona after those two!

Drinking a Hardknott Infrared, its all yeast and candi sugar and dry grapefruit. Ive a feeling it may be off, but its actually really good!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭BaZmO*

Amberella for the night! That'd be my choice!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 840 ✭✭✭jsa112

Check out Hardknott's queboid drumswan, lovely stuff

Having Brown paper bag project's Doxie, not great beer imo, much preferred the other BPBP beers.

I thought it was nice enough. Interesting how it's made though.

I had two bottles of the much maligned Galway Bay Full Sail.
I think it is easily the best US style IPA an Irish brewery has produced to date.
But WTF are The Abbot's doing charging €5.50 for an Irish 4.8% bottle of beer?
    Vitus is the same price!!!!!

I think a few people here were slating it and I know some people who thought it wasn't hoppy of flavoursome.

Couldn't bring myself to buy pink beer!
Well it was really to do with what was in it really.

I'd agree. It seems to have got some very average reviews online.
I had a bottle last week and thought it was very nice.

    That sounds bloody rank.

I really don't get the love for Rogue, almost all of their beers I've had were a big fat "meh".

There's plenty of Oregonian breweries that are far far better than Rogue.

    They are consistent.
    Consistently disappointing!

The first thing I had from then was the Hazelnut brown ale, and after the first few sips I loved it, but after a pint it was just really hard to get through and sickly sweet. Everything from there, besides the oatmeal stout, have been a disappointment.

They aren't bad beers, far from it really, they are just very, well, uninspiring.

Crazy talk about Rogue - they have some fabulous beers available here: Amber Ale, Brutal IPA, Chocolate Stout, Double Chocolate Stout, Oatmeal Stout, Hazelnut Brown & St Rogue are all excellent. Their bars are fantastic too, 16 own brews and 16 guest taps in the last one I was in.

Funny to hear advocates of the likes of Galway Bay slating Rogue!

I see 8 Degrees have bottled Amber Ella, these guys are rapidly becoming my favourite Irish brewer

That's great news, are the bottles available in Dublin already? That beer was my #1 in the beer fest, reminded me of 5AM saint but more complex fruit notes, just brilliant!

What bars are serving Amberella on draught in Dublin?

Its available online from Bradleys in Cork. Cork seems to get everything first!

Well 8 degrees are a based in Cork, so it kind of makes sense that we would get it first.

Hope to get through these over the next 3 days..

    Empyrean Domino Effect Transition Ale
    Empyrean Watch Man IPA
Third Street Jack’d Up Autumn Ale
    Lucid Brewing Company Foto IPA
    Grand Teton Sweetgrass APA
Horny Goat Hopped Up n Horny IPA.

Ah I like Rogue in general. Their Hazelnut Brown Ale and Dead Guy Ale would be regulars for me. Their Juniper Pale Ale is below average, though.

My hunch proved correct, they have Amber Ella in baggot street wines!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭BaZmO*

SlyFox Phoenix Pale Ale. Very nice. Real malty creaminess from it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,303 ✭✭✭jh79

Rebel red, Robinsons Old Tom, Thwaites Old Dan and Gouden Carolus for tonight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,698 ✭✭✭ciaran76

Deschutes Chainbreaker White IPA it's very pale and smells like grapefruit.

Feels slightly Belgian initially as it has Belgian yeast in it.

Finishes off hoppy with a cascade hop hit. A good summer beer I would say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

I had a favourite Rochefort 8 tonight. It's beer perfection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,698 ✭✭✭ciaran76

Moylans Hopsickle Imperial India Pale Ale This is a big hitter at 9% and you can taste it. Smelled very sweet and tasted sweet also. A major hop hit st the end. Couldn't have more than 1 tulip glass of it.

Alaskan Freeride APA a nice pale ale with a nice piney taste.

Third Street Jack’d Up Autumn Ale very malty and a nice hint of spices and pumpkin.
Its very carbonated for me which kinda puts me off. I let it sit for s while but didn't seem to drop. Spices seemed to get stronger the longer it sat too.

8 Degrees Amber Ella on tap in The Abbot's, Cork last night.
Wow! I was quite smitten with this beer. It's so moreish!!
I've heard it compared to 5AM Saint, which I like, but I thought it was nicer - similar colour but it had a bit less of the "Granny's perfume" floral character.
    A really well made beer.
I really, really, really think 8 degrees should make this part of their core range.
I must write to them and tell them:D
