Surprised Thanos isn't in it, considering how prominent he's been in many major Marvel stories in recent years.

Shacknews had a wee interview with Capcom who mentioned that more character announcements are coming in the next few weeks.
Could just be Galactus but it'll probably be more DLCs. Yay :/

Well they said they dropped frank apparently but. i wonder. would we have Chuck Greene? i hope so

  • Registered Users Posts: 353 ✭✭Generic_name01

Wonder how they would make chuck different from frank... Wasnt the whole problem with frank that his supers caused issues in online tests? Suppose frank could have similar specials and change the supers? Chuck has to be able to use his bike and rambo bear somewhere in his moveset

Chuck would make sense, DR2's big!

Thanks very much for your consideration, it'll be nice to have at least surprises when this comes out. If everyone else could give a spoiler alert that would be great.

I'm not sure you should really bother with storyline. While all the Marvel characters at least nominally exist in the same world, the capcom ones don't!

If it's just background to the marvel characters you're looking for ask away. Was a huge Marvel nerd when I was younger.

I'm with Farz on this one.

Not a single recognisable character in the roster. The sad robot looks okay though.

Gather round children for story time with Sairus.
I dont have time to do Thor and Wolverine right now as I must go get a bus. I assume you know who they are anyways :P

For the tl:drs among us, just skip to whatever characters you dont know about :pac:

    Captain America
A weedy boy was given super soldier serum during WWII and was transformed into the ultimate soldier. After one of his missions the good Captain ended up frozen in ice and was woken in the 60s. Since then he has been elected to run the Avengers in most of their incarnations.
Recently he was the leader of the rebels in a super hero Civil War, where he opposed the Super Hero Registration Act and was thus labled an enemy of the state. After he was assasinated and brought back from the dead he's all cool with the government again.
    Powers
Smarter/stronger/faster than the average human. Master of virtually all forms of combat.

    Deadpool
The Merc with a Mouth is a gun for hire who, while generally morally ambiguous, has become less of an outright villain over the years. Deadpool had a brief stay in Weapon X where he was given an artifical enhanced healing ability, unfortunately this left him mentally unstable and horribly scarred across his entire body beneath his costume.
Recently he's been working for SHIELD (the anti-super villain task force of the Marvel Universe) and the X-Men black ops team X-Force. He also recently got Hulkified and tried to go back in time to kill himself because regular Deadpool was too weak.
Famous for his fourth wall breaking shenanigans and generally making a mockery of super hero comics in general, most of Deadpool's adventures dont really affect the Marvel universe at large.
    Powers
Healing ability equivilant to Wolverine. Owns a teleportation belt. Master of blade, hand and gun combat.

    Doctor DooM
    Cameraman for StreetFighter.ie
    Powers
    Master of holding down-back.

    Doctor Doom
The ruler of the eastern European country of Latveria, Doom wears a mask to cover the face he scarred during an experiment to travel to Hell while he was in college. Afterwards, Doom travelled the world for a bit and learned magic, making him a master of both science and sorcery.
Generally regarded as one of the most dangerous villains in the Marvel universe, Doom has been responsible for some of the biggest acts of villainy (god that sounds so cheesy) in Marvel. He's not all bad though, he cried when the Twin Towers came down. He's also Squirrel Girl's whipping boy.
    Powers
Scientific genius and talented sorcerer. Wears armour equivilant in strength to Iron Man's, but magically enhanced. Can generate both magical and science based energy shields and blasts. Able to switch bodies with people by staring at them. Resistant to mind control. Etc.

    Dormammu
Doctor Strange's main villain, the big D is the god of his home the Dark Dimension. Vastly more powerful than pretty much anything in the universe, Dormammu hasn't simply killed Strange and destroyed the Earth through pure chance and several vows that prevent him from directly interfering with Earth-realm.
The one time he did manifest properly he defeated all the Avengers and Defenders without hassle.
    Powers
This guy can merge universes together. He can basically do whatever the **** he wants.

    Hulk
An accident with a Gamma Bomb irradiated puny Bruce Banner leaving him with the curse of tranforming into the incredible Hulk whenever under emotional stress. As a man, Bruce is a weedy genius, but as the Hulk he is reduced to childlike intelligence and gains ridiculous strength which grows proportionally to his anger.
After a brief stint where Hulk was fired into space and he became ruler of a planet, he returned home with an invasion force with the plan of killing the Avengers who fired him into the big black in the first place. Since then Marvel have been doing a mop up of the Hulk line and have been killing off many of his spin off characters.
    Powers
Technically unlimited strength. Potentially the most powerful being in existence if he ever got angry enough.

    Iron Man
Genius technology designer, Tony Stark is injured while observing a Stark weapons test and held hostage. Building a set of armour from spare parts while in captivity, Stark escaped and has been upgrading that armour to better defend capitalism ever since.
Major events in recent times have seen Iron Man as the leader of the US Government side of the Super Hero Registration Act. Following his victory in the Civil War, Iron Man became leader of SHIELD but was soon kicked out of office after a botched defense of the earth during a Skrull invasion. After a brief stint as a fugitive, Stark is now back as a member of the Avengers in the current lovey dovey Heroic Age marvel comics.
    Powers
Tony himself is a talented pilot and hand to hand combatant in addition to being one of the smarter people on Earth. The armour allows him to fly, project energy/repulsor blasts, hijack other technology, etc.

    Magneto
Born in the 20's, ol' Eric is coming up on his hundreth birthday - but thanks to some magic comic writing he doesn't look a day over 60 (he was turned back into a baby, then his aging was accelerated to make him a younger adult. Sure why not?). Magneto was born a jew and during WWII spent time in Auschwitz - this would later form his aggressive stance against the subjugation of the emerging mutant race. After the war, Magneto's mutant gene became active and he began hanging around with the not yet wheelchair bound Professor Xavier, discussing mutant politics. The two eventually parted as enemies as their outlooks on the situation differed too much.
Magneto formed the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (they later shortened it to simply The Brotherhood for PR reasons) and has basically been the big bad behind every second mutant themed disaster/plotline since his inception. On numerous occasions he's tried to wipe out all humans to make room for homo superior.
Recently he's become a bit of a good guy and member of the X-men as the now nearly extinct mutants live on an artificial island made from one his old asteroid base.
    Powers
The master of magnetism knows exactly how magnets work. He uses this ability to project electromagnetic shields and energy blasts in addition to being able to manipulate any metals. He's been shown to be able to do this at astronomical distances with sufficient concentration.

    MODOK
The ridiculous looking Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing is a recurring Captain Yank villain. Originally he was created to study and enhance the Cosmic Cube - an object that lets the user create or do anything they can think of. Eventually he gets too smart and kills his superiors, becoming leader of the AIM orginsation.
After several defeats, lobotomies, gender changes, deaths and resurrections, MODOK has since been turned back into the human he originally was before he got all big headed, but without the memories of his time as a villain.
    Powers
One of the most intelligent beings in the Marvel universe, Modok can also use his massively enhanced (and generally just massive) brain to psionically control those around him and project force fields. His chair and headband also are packed with conventional weapons like missles and machine guns and allow him to fire psionic beams.

    Phoenix
One of the founding X-Men members, Jean Grey formally went under the alias Marvel Girl. Her mutant ability was telekinisis and telepathy. She's also Cyclop's wife. Except when she's dead, which is frequently.
During one mission she sacrificed herself to save the rest of the team, in the process becoming Phoenix and gaining vast new power. Eventually this god like power corrupts her and she becomes the Dark Phoenix, driving her to devour the sun of another solar system, killing everything there. With the galaxy now at risk from her power, in one moment of clarity Jean kills herself to prevent further harm.
Then marvel did some mad retconning and Jean came back from the dead. There were several clones involved and it turns out Jean didn't actually eat that Sun, that was totally someone else, but now Jean has those memories and powers anyway, which are actually a part of the Phoenix Force - a godlike being that had temporarilly taken residence in Jean's cloned body.
After several more deaths, Jean finally embraced the full power of the Phoenix Force and ascended to a higher plane of existence. She is now considered finally properly dead.
    Powers
Her telekinetic and telepathic powers are some of the strongest in Marvel canon, but when possesed by the Phoenix she gets stupid powerful. She's able to rearrange matter as she wants, instantly travel to any point in the universe, fly through space, etc.

    Sentinel
A mainstay of the X-Men comics, Sentinel robots are usually human shaped machines designed for hunting down and killing or capturing mutants. Over the years they've gone through several redesigns with new abilities, levels of sentience and targets, but generally they dont really deviate from being big, purple and nasty.
During Civil War there was a group of piloted Sentiels tasked with 'protecting' the 198 remaining mutants on Earth by making sure they never left the X-Mansion.
    Powers
    ROCKET PUNCH

    She-Hulk
The resident Alle McBeal of the Marvel Universe, Jennifer Walters became all big and green after her cousin Bruce Banner gave her an emergency blood transfusion. Unlike Hulk though, She Hulk retains all of her cognative abilities when she changes. She is however much weaker than vanilla hulk.
Initially she tranformed by getting angry, but after a run in with Morbius the vampire she can now change at will.
One of the few characters in Marvel to have been part of the Fantastic Four, Jen has also been an Avenger and briefly quit super heroing to become a full time lawyer in super crime.
Recently she's been signed up as pro Super Hero Registration Act, was depowered by Iron Man, switched to the rebels but as a lawyer then got debarred and became a bounty hunter after her powers returned. She is one of the Hulks that survived Marvel's recent culling.
On a more restrained level than Deadpool, She-Hulk's solo comics tend to drift towards the fourth wall and are generally more slapstick than regular Marvel affairs.
    Powers
Generally the same deal as Hulk, but on a smaller scale : super strength and near invunerability.

    Spider-man
I'm assuming everyone knows everything about this dude :/ Got spider powers as a kid, blah de blah, loves his neighbour Mary Jane.
During Civil War he sided with the Pro Registration side and in a show of commitment, revealed his identity to the world. Soon after his aunt was shot, and he made a deal with Mephisto (Marvel's Satan) to change history so that he never revealed his identity. However, this was at the cost of never falling in love with Mary Jane.
Nothing like erasing 5 years of continuity just like that.
    Powers/Responsibility
Proportional strength of a spider, can stick to any surface with his hands and feet, built web shooters that allow him to fire webs from his wrists.

    Storm
Ororo Monroe was the daughter of a Kenyan sorceress who died in a plane crash, leaving Ororo to grow up an orphan on the streets of Cairo until her weather controlling abilities led her to be worshipped as a Godess. Later Xavier recruited her to the X-Men. Great career choice.
After a brief and disasterous style change Storm was depowered and became leader of the X-men, then got her powers back and rips out Marrow's heart with her hand (The boney chick from MvC2).
After becoming leader of a few more teams and becoming one of the 198 mutants to not lose their powers a while back, Storm married Black Panther and like She-Hulk became a temporary member of the Fantastic 4.
    Powers
Weather control. Can use air currents for flight. Immune to temperature changes.

    Super-Skrull
The Skrull are a long time alien menace in Marvel lore and are constantly at odds with the Fantastic Four. As standard, all Skrull are shapeshifters, but Kl'rt, AKA Super Skrull has been genetically augmented to have superior versions of all of the Fantastic Four's powers. After numerous disgraceful defeats, Kl'rt is eventually left drifting in space for years until he is rescued by a Skrull ship. Returning home he cures his species of an ailment that had removed their shapeshifting ability while he was adrift and is thus welcomed as a hero.
When the Annihilation Wave was moving through the galaxy (Annihilus was trying to kill a bunch of guys), Super Skrull sacrificed himself to stop part of it, but was later revived.
Of late he hasn't been bothering Earth much and has been seen mostly in the more cosmic super hero stories, but he did briefly step in to fight some of his Skrullian compadres during Secret Invasion when they attacked Nova - an ally from the Annihilation Wave saga.
Protip: There are actually hundreds of Super Skrull, Kl'rt is the only one that can mimic the Fantastic Four. The others have combinations of other super heroes.
    Powers
Shapeshifting. Has all of the fantastic four's powers: Super Strength, can become invisible/make invisible shields, can stretch and can fly/be on fire.
He can also hypnotize people for some reason.

    Taskmaster
Since childhood, Taskmaster has been able to instantly mimic anything he sees anyone does. Initially he was going to become a hero, but decided crime paid better. After a few jobs both successful and failed he established an acadamy to train lackies for crime syndicates.
Eventually he was arrested and was offered a deal to train a new Captain America. He's actually trained some of the bigger named characters like Spider-wooman and Crossbones.
During and after Civil War he was recruited to train the Thunderbolts - a small army of imprisoned super villains who through the use of pain inducing nano machines were being used as a goverment controlled version of the Avengers.
Eventually this legal status collapsed and he reverted to standard mercenary work.
    Powers
Can mimic anything he sees, as long as it's not an actual power, ie he cant fire lasers because he saw Cyclops do it, but he can bounce a shield like Captain Yank.

    X-23
Poor little Laura's had a troubled life. She's the first successful clone of Wolverine after 22 failed attempts and was bred specifically to kill from the moment she could walk. He bone claws were also coated with adamantium - an indestructable metal - like Wolverines, but not her entire skeleton. Eventually she escaped the lab and found herself in the mutant district of New York. She became a prostitute specializing in letting people cut her and after a brief debacle ended up killing her pimp and having a run in with the X-Men, who brought her back to the X-Mansion.
Here she was taken under Wolverine's wing who tried to help her live like a more normal girl, and not the mindless assasin she'd been reared to be. All was going well until recently when Cyclops drafted her onto his black ops X-Force team, which has effectively reverted X-23 back to her souless killing machine mentality.
    Powers
Enhanced healing ability, much better than Wolverine's because she doesn't have an adamantium skeleton. Two rectractable adamantium claws on the backs of her hands, and one on each of her feet between her first and second toes.

I'm trying to avoid watching any of the intro/ending or teaser (non gameplay) movies.

Since Capcom said they put some effort into the story, and since Marvel allowed them full access to the Marvel library for non-playable characters appearing in the plot; I'm hoping for a enjoyable single player experience (like Blazblue).

Gamesnash ( where most of us here have pre-ordered it ) have a price of €52.99, though I've seen in HMV Cork it might be going for €44.99 on Day 1, I'm not sure about anywhere else.
