It wasn't quite that simple, generally you would have a fair few different teams but it is true that they generally all include one of the god tier characters (Sentinel,Storm,Magneto,Cable). Especially Sentinel. Clockwork is a great example of a team where Sentinel was thrown in for no real reason and was rather just thrown in because he was god mode.

The real problem with MvC2 and this makes any rebalance attempts pointless is that too many of the characters play on very similar archetypes. Once the tiers were established, which took a number of years (Iceman top tier ftw), generally any character you wish to play would have an equilvent higher tier character that played in much the same way. This is why low tier marvel tourneys are so dull to watch because they really are just marvel-lite. An example is Megaman. Why play Megaman when you have Cable? Obviously this is coming from a competitive pov rather then the "I play Megaman because I love Megaman" pov.

So far this doesn't seem to be the case with MvC3. Every character I've tried so far seems to be fairly unique and have their own strenghts and weakness. So hopefully it should be less constrained to a certain top tier and we should see more of the occassional, character specialists coming up and blasting everyone with low tier teams.

Nope, pre-ordered my 360 copy with free T-Shirt last week from www.thehut.com, €40 + PP, got an email Tuesday to say it shipped.

In the mean time Ive had the PS3 version since Saturday the 12th, game is fantastic but I wanna play it online against real people, Im sick of fighting the CPU.

Dante's Million Dollars + Devil Trigger + level 3 X Factor = Bye Bye Galactus

For anyone who's put off the game by chip damage and keepaway, you've got to realise, its early days yet. Wait for the game to actually develop.

For example, Lvl 3 X-Factor Storm can chip kill a single character from 100% with 4 or 5 Hail Storm supers. Sounds broken right? I can already see it is not that good of a strategy at all. Firstly, if you see somebody put Storm as the 3rd on their team, you can guess that they're gonna try Lvl 3 X-Factor chip you. How do you counter that? X-Factor negates chip damage, you wait for them to activate and then activate your own X-Factor. Secondly, you can use Snapbacks to send in their Storm early in the game, and attempt to kill her off before she gets to use Lvl 3 X-Factor. Thirdly, you still need to build a lot of meter to chip kill someone with Lvl 3 X-Factor Hail Storms, which means you have to save up on meter you'd be better off spending on adding damage to your combos. Anyway, outside of X-Factor chip damage isnt that big and is just a waste of meter to be honest.

As for keepaway, people are still new to the game. It's easier to learn how to play keepaway than how to rushdown effectively in a brand new game. As I said, let the game develop first. Try it out for yourself before writing it off because you dont like the look of day 1 tactics.

Sorry for the rant, but Im already sick of seeing complaints like this about a game people havent played.

Digging Skrull. He's the only one I am vibing with yet so far.

Doom's ok. He feels really clunky though.

    Wolvie's immense fun.

Anywhere break the street release yet in dublin?

  • Registered Users Posts: 353 ✭✭Generic_name01

Yeah skrull is great fun to play! At the mo I'm sticking with him and dorammu in ranked. Trying to find a dude that meshes with the both of em. Spencer's grab assist pulls em back into tenderiser range so using him at the mo. I'd love to be gud with thor but his normals are slowwwwwww...

Just as a heads up, if like me SF4 was the first beat em up you truly got into, dont expect the same stuff. SF4 is more about balance and fairness whereas mvc3 is about RUDENESS! Not meant in a bad way. Loving how OTT it all is though if I could I'd replace xfactor with tvc's baroque system.

I raced into a HMV at like 6:29pm today to drop a pre-order on one, since HMV are selling it for 45, but if you have a pre-booking you get the t-shirt and a €6 HMV voucher.

Seems to be the cheapest RRP, and I'm going to put the €6 towards a Wii Classic Controller Pro for more epic Monster Hunting.

Won't have time to actually pick up the game until Saturday or Sunday though :D

    From SRK's guide:
Doom is a keepaway character with some sneaky ways to get in close and inflict damage. He has the best beam projectile in the game

    Sounds like fate to me.

I can concur with that, while building up meter to level 5 ( for Dark Phoenix ) in a match against another player, I was keeping the him away by abusing the hell out of Doom's Projectile and it was very effective.

After the match, the guy left the lobby and called me a spammer.

ranked is horrible, full of ragequits and eejits sending hatemail. horrible lag too, it's like the early days of vanilla but worse

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,966 ✭✭✭Scavenger XIII

    Would you expect any better?

I basically never play anything online unless I get an invite because I can't stand interacting with the scum that infest ranked matches, matchmaking, etc.
