    Hello,
Can anybody give me advice on where to buy a home security camera that would be able to record a car registration up to 15 metres away at night ?
    Thanks

are you covering your property or the street in front of your property.

15meters is a fair distance to try to read CCTV camera footage - im guessing 15meters is the shortest distance.

wireless motion activated cameras would be the best - but be careful theres loads out there will very low resolution or B+W at night - which makes it difficult to get quality.

up to 15 meteres away. And yes im covering the street in front of the property.
Do you know of anybody that would fit wireless motion activated cameras?
    Thanks.

is there any poles (not the people .... the metal ones) which you could attach wireless cams to ? - on your property - as you legally cant put them up elsewhere - the only problem is that if you put a camera up in a fairly obvious place then its possible that it will be vandalised.

its just a suggestion but you could have a camera close to your building but have it pre-zoomed at an area (again - this will more than likely result in loss of quality)

is it a commercial or residential area ? ....I'm guessing you have "boy racers" or "joyriders" frequenting the area.....if this is the case, contact other neighbours and gardai ....and arrange with garda consent to report/record on video cameras ....report to gardai every time they appear, unfortunately this will result in a period of gardai coming along and just "moving on" the people, and will ultimately result in the "pack" moving to another area...unfortunately with our super slow judicial system gardai are restricted in what they can do.

A bit more information is needed here to give proper advice.
Will it be used to record cars entering and exiting a gate

First of all thanks for all the advice. Is it legal to have the camera indoors but pointed outside? or is permission needed from the Gardai?
My house is a corner house with an access road to the left of the property. The cameras inteded use is to catch vandels.
If there are people vandelising property they will definatly have a car so thats the reason I need the camera to be able to read a car registration.
    Thanks.

Having a camera looking from your property onto a public area is fine. If it is looking into neighbours property they may have an issue with it. However no permission is required from the Guards.
With regard to capturing reg plates. To ensure this very specialist equipment is required.
The camera would also need to be directly facing oncoming traffic.

To properly ID someone they will need to take up approx 1/3 of the screen area. so you will need to focus the camera on a particular area
Getting a number plate in low light without specialist equipment will be hard, if it's moving it practically impossible as all you will get is ghosting.
I think the best you will get is to ID sombody and maybe get the make of their car but not the plate
