Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Err 99 on Canon 40D

I was shooting today at a drifting tournament and the camera was working fine. I stopped taking pics for a few minutes to chat to someone.

When I went to take more pics the camera wouldn't work and the screen displayed the message 'Err 99, SHooting not possible. Switch camera off and on again or remove and replace battery'

I did the above steps numerous times and also switched lenses etc but the same message kept appearing and the camera would not shoot.

Anyone got any ideas what might be wrong?

I bought a lens on Ebay & when I received it I got this error intermitently. All my other lenses work fine. Browsing through the web on this it seems that the following may help:

    - remove main battery
    - remove the little battery as well
    - wait 5 mins, then replace them.

    Also you can

    - try a different flash card , or format the one you have.

    and

    - Check that the electric contacts between the body & the lens are clean & that they are springy - ie you can push them in a little & they pop back out.

    Cheers

    shutter needs to be replaced

    or

    contacts need to be cleaned.

I'm thinking its more than likely the shutter needs to be replaced.....do you want to borrow a 40D from me to keep ya going ?

Try clean the contacts with an eraser if that makes no differance it is more then likely the shutter (or at least it was in my bitter experiance) and will need to be sent off for repair. It should be free if it is still in warrenty.

It took about 1 week to get fixed in my case and about 3 weeks for the courier to find my house on the way back to me.

Only ever happened to me once with 40D (Sigma 70-200 f2.8 attached) when I was snapping at a match in gale force wind. Turned camera off and on again (typicial IT answer :D) and havent had the problem since.

Regulary got the problem on a 400D ... but some cnut stole it so hopefully he/she is still having problems with it :pac:

Sounds as if the shutter is still working ok so gonna give it a good cleaning later on and see if that works.

    Cheers for the advice!

Tried cleaning it and doesn't seem to help.

Someone on another forum advised that if the camera shoots through the Live View Finder mode that the problem is with the mirror and not the shutter. Mine shoots through that mode so guess I have a problem with the mirror.
