    Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me. I was on 'imm.gov.au today and it appears they are changing their visa system?

Don't know much about visas Australia but from what I can gather they are reviewing the entry system and the types of careers they need and that the results of this review will be available mid 2010?

I'm an Urban and Regional planner which is currently on the skilled occupation list (sol), just wondering how things will change?

    Any opinions/advice/knowledge welcome :)

    Thanks a bunch:D

They are overhauling the occupations and there will be a slimmed down SOL released at the end of the month, it wouldn't matter if you applied now as any applications not processed by 8th Feb and do not make it on to the new list will be probably be refunded.

Unless you have a crystal ball you wont know if your occupation will be on the list or not (although I reckon an Urban planner will be ok).

    See page 83

Incorrect, please see question 12, You can still apply now and follow the current SOL list, however my guess would be that your right regarding the op occupation beens safe enough

I Like the Proposed change to make new arrivals spend a few years in the Outback.

Slightly OT anyone hear about the moratorium on Srilankan and Afghani(seriously, Afghanistan is a Land Locked Country) Boat People.

Thats right but what happens if you wanted to apply in March, May or June.

also try getting a skills assessment before the end of June

DIAC have just suspended receiving applications for General Skilled Migration Until 1st July.

    That is 175, 176 & 475

    http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/whats-new.htm

Obviously any new applications 1st July onwards will be forced to use the new SOL.
