Hi, I've a collection of mostly 1:18 diecast model cars (almost 500) and want to insure them with a specialist as the house contents insurance doesn't really cover them.

Has anyone any ide of any crowd that provides insurance in Ireland for such a collection? I've tried a company in England but won't cover me as I'm in Ireland.

    Thanks! :)

Wow, I didn't realise that the house insurance doesn't cover them. I've near 200 models myself, some very rare & desirable. I must check this out too. Let me know if you find out anything & I'll do likewise. Many thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Who are you insured by? Did they exclude them specifically or in general (hobby related, collection)?
I ask because I have a hobby that is out of the ordinary, and when I have questioned insurance companies regarding specifics such as lightening damage, few would commit either way. One company (FBD) added a specific clause covering the items I specified in the manner I wanted.

Most short term insurers should be able to help you. You would need to specify it though and it won't be cheap.

    you could ask this guy
    http://irishmodeltrains.webs.com/

he has all those photos up as photographic proof for insurance, similar category to what you're looking for

the only problem is "how to put a value onto a collection".....

tot up all the prices that you remember and this gives you a value???? im not sure if that would work as some models in anyones collection is of a multiple...

id say ive around 1000 models myself and for me to put a value on them would be next to impossible...some are rare and very very hard to come by for sale....mine are all boxed as ive no plce for them yet but hopefully ill soon ave em sorted out :)
