Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can't decide what my next bike should be, so looking for opinions :D

    The shortlist:

    1) CBR600F
    honda_cbr600f.jpg

    2) SV650S
    250997716_5662be18ba.jpg

    3) VTR1000

    4) Monster
    08_apr_ducati_monster_05.jpg

    5) Thruxton
    Triumph-Thruxton-2008.jpg

Will be used for a bit of everything; commuting, weekend spins, trips down the country and abroad. Budget is around 2.5k - 3k, don't mind going to the UK for the right bike. Let's not let this descend into an argument about insurance, restrictions and all that jazz

    What do yiz think?

    erm,

if you are looking at the vtr1000, why not the SV 1000 instead of the 650? If mine isn't being serviced tomorrow, and I make yer spin you can have a *look* :).
    DSC02751small.jpg <-- nicest colour
Also, why not the VTR SP1/SP2?

if you can't guess already, I'd suggest any v-twin :)

All depends what you want.... I'd stay away from the duke tho, heard lots of complaints that they are sluggish....

There is a huuuge difference between a cbr and a SV, i've gone from a 05 SV650s to a 07 CBR600rr and the contrast is immense.. the cbr is better for bouncing around corners where as the SV was better at scaring pedestrians and making you feel like you've a huuuuge pénis!!!

Depends what you're coming from imo - but if you want a bit of speed & good wind protection, i'd go for the cbr

I know the CBR and SV are completely different, that doesn't make it any easier for me to choose :D

Don't think I'd get a nice SP1 within my budget.

Want a bike that can do it all, commuting, trips abroad, hoolie runs on the weekend etc.

Would have to be a Ducati 999 then.

re the truxton, i seen a fell driving one down the M1 last night, he was getting battered by the wind and it wasn't even windy out, he looked like he was struggeling at 100kmph

I'd throw a flyscreen on for any long journeys

    truxton or firestorm

Would you consider one of these then?

Pretty cheap on insurance, loads of grunt in the reliable engine courtesy of its torquey characteristics. I saw this bike up months ago so he would be willing to drop further just to get a sale I would guess.

Doesn't do anything for me I'm afraid :o

The restriction would just choke it.

    When is that up?

I'd be tempted to keep whatever you have till the restriction ends, then upgrade.

otherwise you'll only have to do it twice. Gives you time to save the extra couple of squids for the SP anyway.

For me it comes down to the CBR, the vtr or the monster.
My dad had CBRs when I was a kid about 15 years ago. Awesome bikes. Holds a certain sentimental value for me.
There's a guy that goes past me in the mornings on my walk to work on a monster. It looks the ****. Sounds the ****. But doesn't have a screen, so I prob wouldn't get one for that reason.
    Fcuk it. Get the CBR.

Considering the restriction I would take a good look at the torque figures at low rpm before buying any bike. I have been on two bikes that like high revs for power and the restriction just takes all the fun out of them.

True, that's why I'm considering the Firestorm and not a GSXR / 'blade etc.

Spike at 3-4k and levels up nicely. Should be ok.

Although I suppose with fuel injection and a Power Commander you'd be able to map it to perform at it's best well before the restrictor cuts in.

I love the VTR series. The SP1/2 are cool, but there's something about the VTR 1000s half fairing deal I like.

Love V-Twins (even though I've only ever owned inline 4s).

A Firestorm went by me this morning.

    It sounded like thunder :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,772 ✭✭✭jameshayes

    Another thing to note...

If you're planning on taking a pillion, inline 4's are more comfortable for them, less 'jerky'
