    Italian telecom authority Agcom launched a public consultation regarding the national rates that will apply during the period 1 May 2010 to 31 December 2012 for the services of unbundling, wholesale line rental and bitstream. The new tariffs were established based on the so-called bottom up long run incremental cost model, as required by the European Commission. In particular, the proposed unbundling fee will increase to EUR 8.70 per month from 1 May, EUR 9.26 per month from 1 January 2011 and EUR 9.67 per month from 1 January 2012. These adjustments, however, are conditioned on the realisation of two conditions. The first requires Telecom Italia to improve the quality of its copper network through increased investment in the maintenance of the network and reducing the time for service provision and fault repair. The other condition is the modernisation of next-generation networks to allow Italy to close the gap with its main European competitors.
