This is probably a bad/wrong question - but how is MaxRoam managing to sell E72 at €199? Nokia's own retail price is higher than that in Europe and even in Asia. I am not suggesting anything, but I am just really (and kinda pleasantly, even if I bought an N72 just weeks ago for a lot more money :( ) surpirsed how MaxRoam is able to sell them at this price.

Christ.. I was away for one day and the amount of goddamn moaning on this thread is unbelievable!

    Cop the feck on people!

I would interperit this as stop moaning and shut up.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I didn't see any moaning here - I saw people voicing their dissapointment which is a totally different thing. The reason this thread has gone on so long is that myself and others have had to reply to other posters accusing us of giving out too much. I only made a one-line comment - everything else was a reply to somebody jumping on their soapbox and immediatley shooting me down. I never used abusive or threatening language just tried to get my point of view accross but I've been told to "kop on" "get a life" and had the obvious and lots af analagies thrown at me.

I'll keep replying trying to defend my point of view, so if you want this thread to end just dont jump on the ban wagon asking "if pixmania hiked up the prices at 12am on the 12th day of a 12 day sale"....and so on.

But it's your interpretation.. NOT FACT!

There's a difference.. you accused us of telling people "critising this to be quiet".. we would have simply locked this thread if we wanted this.

We welcome discussion.. the majority of people here just don't understand the big deal with you (and others) missing a Bargain Alert, and getting hung up on it!

Keep hammering your same point home if you wish..

.. but the difference is less and less people will listen as your tired POV becomes more and more repetitive!

I'm not discussing this any further though!

    Wo-oh that lovin' Phelan
    I've lost that lovin' Phelan
    Now it's gone...gone...gone...woooooah

To be honest there are some very valid points on both sides of this argument. It should at this stage be obvious to Mr. Phelan that coming on here offering 'bargains' to Board.ie's is akin to standing in front of a pack of wild-eyed, scavenging, ravenous Jackals and throwing rotten meat from a bucket - You had better not run out or they'll stop being your friend very suddenly and will attack in a frenzied Mob and rip your throat out!!!!

It is also true from where I am sitting that Mr. Phelan had subsequent to carrying out all calculations and overheads decided that €99 was a viable price for the Samsung Jet and had he resisted the base urge to profiteer from his sudden increase in popularity he might just have cultivated a strong Customer base from which to climb onwards and upwards.

    - In my opinion he just showed himself in a bad light and has earned a reputation to accompany his Business practices - with this reputation depending entirely on the opinion each of us has of that particular manner of handling your Customer Service and dealing with People.

    Personally I'll be shopping elsewhere.

@ kingaaa: Let it go, will ya? It's beyond tedious at this stage. We know your opinion on what's happened, and if you truly believe you're right, you shouldn't have to keep repeating yourself.

Take the higher moral ground, and let it rest.

There's a bigger discussion to be had here with a lot of members, it seems.

OK, the original thread about Maxroam has been locked because of everyone crying about how they missed out on the €99 deal. Well they may have done you a favour. I ordered a Samsung Jet yesterday morning and according to Pat Phelan I should have received it the following day - Today, and yes, it hasn't arrived yet.

Maybe I'm overreacting, it's only a day late, but I wanted to see if anyone else is in the same situation, but the Mods locked the thread. I know maybe I should post this somewhere else, but this is where I got the heads up about the phone and here many said they had also ordered it. So has anyone received or not received their Samsung Jet yet?

    Here's the original post:

    E72 unlocked for €199
I'm in the market for a phone and was doing some checking and quite liking the E72 so debating buying it

    http://www.maxroam.com/Shop/Product/...?ProductId=770

Its €199 and unlocked with MaxRoam ... and its €319.99 online with Vodafone prepay ...

Right, I've re-opened this thread to allow the discussion to carry on. I would hope that people behave.

Bozacke, I've merged your post in here too to keep everything in one place, but I would suggest you contact Pat / MaxRoam directly for details.

    Why all the glum faces:(?
I ordered the Jet first thing yesterday. Considering the price of €99 and that the delivery price was significantly reduced to €12.50, I will be more than happy to get it, even if it arrives next week.
I would expect that they got a lot more orders than expected and combined with a new delivery method, there was bound to be some delays.

Relax .. it's not a life support machine;)

    Hi Guys

we have updated the postage rate to €12.50 for Ireland
this is a signed for delivery
we dont have a tracker ability yet as its a new courier and the integration will take a little bit but the package is fully tracked

As above, Pat never said that the package would have a tracking number.

and did I mention anything about moaners?;)

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is up to €400.

Their stock is probably nearly gone, so they have to order more and being asked for a higher price perhaps

Fantastic advertisement - this thread has had 18k hits, and phones are still cheaper than anywhere else even though the prices are going up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 575 ✭✭✭richardw001

Ordered an e72 today from them - will post back when (hopefully) I receive it etc.
I suspect that they have been deluged with orders - and from what I can see the mobile sale side of the business is new for them. Thats just my impression from the website and automated emails etc.

Perhaps if they are checking this thread - they might consider updating the faq etc. on the site to address mobile questions such as warranty etc.

anyway this looks to be a great bargain - maybe there should be two threads one for the e72 and whether people have recieved the handsets and are happy with the bargain in question - i.e. the e72 for 199 and a separate thread for a samsung jet (for 150 :-))

    Just a suggestion !

So let me get this right....

MaxRoam had excellent prices on 3 or 4 phones, which were "specials" even though they weren't marked as such.
Traffic to MaxRoam picked up massively from this thread, a few people got deals (I wonder what the numbers are), and prices subsequently rose.
At this stage pretty much all the "good" deals have expired, without warning, and despite Pat saying there are always specials available, the only one now on the site is the Motorola for €20?

Now I don't know much about much, but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck....

Haven't a clue. I'm not in the market for a phone, so I don't know the going rate.
I'm just going by what I'm reading on this thread. If it is a bargain, I don't understand why there are so many complaints.

There are so many complaints because some people on here think this dude is supposed to be a samaratin, not realising he is trying to run a business - and they have missed out, including myself, I bought a Jet for 150 but I still see it as cheap - aslo I'm a born sceptic, however there are many Mods here who have and are still standing by this guy as a genuine bloke

I don't think people have been complaining about if it's a bargain or not.

There's a way to do business, there's a way to build trust and a good relationship, especially on boards.

look at blacknight for example richer sounds etc, they get the good reputation because there's no nonsense and NO BS.

That's what people want I don't think Pat did a whole lot wrong, but it certainly doesn't look very good and with friends of his including Darragh who should have made it his business to stay impartial here made a dogs of it IMO.

I like what Pat does but this was a bit of a disaster.

Just looking at the prices that are there now the samsung jet is about the only bargain there now - and maybe the X10 (but only just) - everything else there can be bought cheaper elsewhere I would think. It would be interesting to know how many were sold at the cheaper prices - I imagine no matter what the stock levels were - they would have gone pretty quickly.
Maybe a quantity left display would be a good addition to the site :-)
    - might mean at least that people would have been less disgruntled.
Just based on the fact that I managed to order an e72 today at lunch time - I imagine that they had a fair amount of stock at the really good prices.

I'm very surprised at the attitude of people on this thread. It is distasteful to say the least.

Maxroam were selling phones at what what many would regard as "misprice" prices. They appear to be honouring all the sales from what I can see. This forum is called "bargain alerts", and like any scarce commodity you need to be quick to get a bargain.

Being a private company Maxroam are under no obligation to feed the poor with smart phones. Buy if you like the price, otherwise put up and shut up.

Btw I saw the Jet for €99 with 12.50 postage and passed it up. Got an e71 THERE AND THEN instead for my mother which I reckon is a superior phone and was a fantastic bargain.

Thanks Pat and Maxroam, you did a great job and f*** the begruders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 301 ✭✭Bozacke

I know it's not a life support machine and I'm in no hurry, if I don't get it until Friday or even Monday it's not the end of the world, but I was told I'd get it today. I also paid 12.50 for shipping via a supposed one day courier, OK a lot less than the original 35E shipping, but at 12.50E for shipping it should be pretty fast. If they had a less expensive option for shipping I probably would have selected it. It's all based on expectations, I was told 1-day and I didn't get it, just like others assumed the sale prices wouldn't go up since the website didn't say limited quantity or have an expiration date. If you hesitated to buy and later found it said out of stock, I think most people would have understood it was a good deal and they weren't quick enough, but the fact Maxroam was still selling them at a higher price and initially it didn't say "Limited time only" or "limited quantity at these prices" or just had an expiration date, is what people have found frustrating.

I've purchased many things on-line and it's rare to get something the next day, but in the past I've purchased phones from Vodafone, O2 & Meteor and they have all arrived via courier within one day, if ordered before noon the day before, so the expectation for 1-day delivery is there with mobiles and they don't charge for delivery, although the prices of their phones are a lot higher then what I paid to Maxroam, even when including the delivery charge.

As far as attracting the attention of potential customers, Maxroam has done that, but they haven't set adequate expectations and because of this, the customer experience isn't too good.

I guess my biggest concern is, is this a scam and will I get my phone and if I do, will it be a cheap knock-off? The original prices were far cheaper than anywhere else and my usual experience is, if something is too good to be true, it usually isn't true. Time will tell, I'll keep you all posted.

To be honest, if I thought something was a scam, I would run a mile from it & would not have placed an order.

    What's your problem?

This thread is quickly going back to the antagonistic one of yore. Shouldn't it be for the people who actually put in a delivery and want to comment on that?
