For informational purposes I thought you might want to pass this on if you know someone affected by this:

O2 waives roaming text charges to aid those stranded overseas

Telefónica O2 Ireland today announced it will waive charges for text messages for customers who are stranded abroad because of the ongoing volcano situation. These customers will not be charged for text messages from midnight tonight (Tuesday) to midnight on Friday in order to provide some relief to those currently unable to return to the country due to flight restrictions.

This free SMS offer is available to all customers on the O2 network that are currently abroad. O2 will send a text to all customers currently roaming to inform them of the offer.

O2 customers do not need to do anything to avail of free text messages while abroad. Charges for texts sent by O2 customers abroad between midnight tonight and midnight on Friday will be waived automatically.

    * A fair usage policy of 100 SMS per customer will apply
    **Premium SMS are not included

I think it is 100 while stranded but I will confirm this for you.

EDIT: Customers will receive a message through the roaming welcome service advising them that they can use up to 100
roaming sms for free between midnight Tuesday April 20th and midnight Friday April 23rd.

Just to clarify Daryll, is that all customers full stop, or all customers on bill pay?

    fair play to them

it'll be especially useful to people on prepay as in a crisis you can use up your credit very quick through making calls, and at least people will have the fallback of 100 texts even if the credit has ran out for voice calls.
