Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, I have a quick question (probably a stupid one) on this lense with the D3000.

I know I wont have the AF and will have to cope with Manual focus which I'm fine with, however, what I am unclear on is if I can set the aperture and shutter speed directly on the camara itself or do I need to set these on the lense directly.

I'm stranded in the states and have the option to pick one up rather cheaply over here.

Everything will be set in the camera. You will simply have to lock the aperture at is smallest setting, f22.
Yes, you will have no AF but who cares if it's cheap enough get it they are great fun!

I have one and use it more that I should on both a D90 and N65.

So, I will need to set the f22 setting on the lense and then I can just set the required aperture on the camera body (down to 1.8 etc) as needed??

Yup there should be a little switch with a red dot to help lock it in place.

No Problem, glad to do it.:)

You should be able to find it cheaper in a camera shop then in BestBuy to be honest.

Where in the states are you stuck?

Chicago. I'm about 2 blocks from a best buy and just used the site for convenience. Think I can get for about 130dollars in another place a bit further away.

I bought my D90 in the US last summer in bestbuy. It was marginally cheaper on amazon but I preferred to go it up in the local best buy and pick it up (I was excited!!) - however when I got to the store they had it priced significantly more then online - when I asked about it he went off and got a manager and he said ok - he'd price match with bestbuy.com (weird but that's what he said).

Of course when I heard him say that, I piped up with "oh so you price match - how about amazon - they do it for $X - he he - another 30 dollars in my pocket.

SO be prepared for that and they will/should price match.

I got my 50mm prime 1.8 while I was in the states too but in the end via amazon.com

Also be warned - keeping any expensive new purchases in their packaging may not be the best idea - flat pack in different bag or dump (I shipped the empty boxes home by post).

Oh and one last thing - I think bestbuy have an online stock checker (or maybe i rang ahead - which might be worth the effort).

    I see
    - http://www.adorama.com/NK5018AFD.html $119 (gray market what ever that means - I think no USA warranty)
    - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005LEN4/kenrockwellcom $125
    - http://www.adorama.com/NK5018AFDU.html $125 with USA only warranty
