What Beasty (Edit and RAAM) said !

You need a licence with a minimum of Club Competition and need to physically have it before you can race. No obligation to head out on a group spin before but it is advisable if you haven't ridden in large groups before.

Thanks. Guess I'll look at upgrading for later in the year when I decide to start.

Well not a race yet but took the first step today and went back out on club spin - survived the 75k relatively comfortably and in the process did my first ever 100k. thanks all for the encouragement

You'll have seen my reports - I've only done 2 races so far, the second one being Bog of the Ring on Wednesday. The race speed was around 36 kph for Group 2. We caught Group 1 after 3 laps, which means their speed was just over 32 kph (although their group was much smaller), on a relatively flat course.

We are back at the Bog course in just over 2 weeks, for another 40k. I think this is an ideal course to start, and I would suggest you give it a go in Group 1. There were a few that found the pace of Group 2 a bit hot (it certainly caught up with me on the final lap), and a number were dropped after a couple of laps or so. However I am sure they will be back next time (as will I)
